Mr. Carl, I cannot believe that you got rid of your Peanut.  Your small knife obsession dates back to the early days.

(Image removed from quote.)

Well, believe it!

All my other knvieshave gone to other owners. I still am a small knife champion. My Vic recruit has a small blade as well as the tools I find handy to have on a daily basis. My last peanut, the little Remington/Camillus made peanut has gone to my granddaughter who loves it.

I got tired of having too much stuff lugging around in my pockets. If I carry a dedicated knife, then Have to have the p-38 and keychain screw driver in my wallet. Or I had to have a SAK on hand. I just got tired of lugging mourned all that stuff when a SAK covers all my basis. Screw driver? SAK has it. Can opener? SAK has it. Awl? SAK has it. and so on...

I've reached a stage in my life where I don't have time for one trick ponies anymore.

Edit to add; I've done the same thing wth my gun collection. Having come to the realization that I am not going to war with a drug cartel or the hells angels, I've cut WAY. back on the guns I own. I Can actually carry all my guns at one time now. Since I only kept three handguns, that's not hard. I just don't need all that crap in my life. It's soooooooooo liberating.

I hear you!

That's what I'm saying.   That's why I hardly ever carry a SAK that only has a blade or two.   I like the double digit functions.  When I meet a tool and then find out they only have like a function or two, I'm like "see ya later!"

These tools and knives are such beauties that I cannot even use them much, out of fear that they're gonna get scratched, become blunt etc... I don't feel like that when it comes to LM or Gerbers, for example. Those feel like they can handle all the tough jobs one can throw at them but the shiny, delicate looking SAKS, I feel like the most aggressive thing I can (and should) do to them is peeling oranges...

Oranges?! ORANGES?!

I’ve thought about it for some time , but I still keep finding a locking folder in my pockets. ATM , a DPX Heat . I also have an EnZo slippie in my breast pocket . Of course , there is also the Spirit X on my belt .

I totally understand, I haven't come around to getting rid of my other blades yet, and I only have1 plier based multitool, an original Shrade Toughtool, it's been a long time since I've carried anything but a SAK

It didn't happen overnight. It was a slow process that took some years. Every time I saw a knife ion my drawer that I didn't carry in a long while, I did a give away. Unused knife by unused knife, they were slowly weeded out. I was cutting back in general, and didn't intend to go totally SAK, because I had some traditional pocket knives that I liked. But I noticed that more and more as I got older, the traditional were sitting more and the SAK's were being carried and used more anymore. I just kept on doing give aways with knives that were not being carried anymore and I guess a natural evolution took place. SAK's as the survival of the fittest? Darwin theory working on inanimate objects?

I don't know, but after the non users all got weeded out, the SAK's were what was left.

I'll probably keep at least a single blade knife. When you're eating a meal or cutting some fruit, it feels better just a single blade knife. It's more elegant, too. I keep the SAK for the "dirty" tasks.

I don't think I could or would want to be All SAK. I've carried traditional since I was 8 years old and I'm 64 now. I love SAKs but I also like my Buck 112, Case Copperlock and Case Large Stockman. I enjoy making Canes and Walking sticks so my Buck and/or the Case Large Stockman come in real handy debarking and trimming fresh cut sticks. When woods walking I always have a SAK Farmer or Hiker and usually my Buck 112 with me. I don't carry much else on these trips just water, cell phone and a lighter.  No I won't be going  all SAK, ever!

That's what Victorinox paring knives are for. They even come with a nice plastic blade cover for pocket carry. And they weigh nothing! I don't like to use folders for food; too many nooks and crannies for bacteria to grow in.

Well, over here we have some traditional dishes like tripe, snails, sausages (wrapped in pig's intestines)... who cares about some bacteria in your knife?!

Well, I just gave my modified opinel no 6 in olivewood to my friend who lives in Honduras. Should be a fun torture test of that knife in the middle of nowhere rural Honduras. So far everything thing I've given him has surpassed expectations and are going strong: modified svord wood mini peasant, swisstool spirit and a fenix LD01 SS.

But anyway, to the point of this thread, I am now officially all SAKs for folding knives and MTs (one exception is my late grandfather's old case, but that doesn't get used, so I don't count it). All my fixed blades are Moras. IMO, the SAK of fixed blades.

Now, I still have lots of SAKs, but most of them are stashed in places of use, like spirit + kits in each vehicle, OHTs in get home bags, etc. The only shelf queen is a mid 90's BSA huntsman that I never used.

I still jones for a nice single blade one hand opening knife than the one hand sentinel that I have, but I can't find anything yet that is the right combination of utility, price, people friendliness and build quality.

I like the look and feel of a traditional folder, but I have to admit the SAKs are more sheeple-friendly (even when they have a larger blade than a trad) and more versatile.

For the last days (weeks?), I have been carrying the Compact and it pretty much takes care of everything I need. Maybe I'll follow Carl's way...

An epilogue to my saga of my coming to be all SAK; in the past few years, this old war horse Wenger SI has bcome my most carried pocket knife. Yes, the recruit gets snuck in now and then, and the cadet gets carried on occasions where I have to have dress pants to go with the coat and tie for more formal events. but the rank and file daily work of pocket knife jobs is taken by the old SI.
