AG Russell version of Ted Dowel Funny Folder

Here are 3 AG Russell folders.

The 2 silver ones have ATS34 blades and the other one has an AUS 8 blade

The 2nd picture is to show how the handle folds.

It is a great knife to carry in the watch pocket of a pair of jeans. It is very slim and it is a solid little knife.

The blade is 2 1/4" long and the spine of the blade is 3/16" for about 3/4 of the length and then tapers down to the point.

AG has always had such a nice, sexy and vast catalog.

Although Ted Dowell is credited with coining the term,"funny folder" he was not the originator of the pattern. Not sure who designed this particular pattern but it was popular as an advertising giveaway shortly after WWII. Most of the ones I have seen and own were made by either B & B in St. Paul Minnesota or Executive(a mark of Colonial Knife Co. of Providence Rhode Island). I do have one made by John Watts of Sheffield that is of a slightly different design but operates on the same principle.
In addition to knives,they were also made as letter openers in a slightly larger format.I have a couple of these as well.

A John Watts folder showing how it folds.The frame is pivoted on the rear of the knife which opens and allows the frame to be pivoted around the blade pin and then the frame snapped into position.

A Stanley funny folder and a couple of letter openers. One has the funny folder as a handle with the blade inside and the others the letter opener blade is inside.Also an unmarked knife that was a salesman's sample
