A 30Day OHT Badge Attempt
on: March 13, 2018, 04:28:12 AM
Yep I am doing ANOTHER 30day challange...

So to start off I will outline the changes this will make to my EDC; and its a big change.
Anyone who followed my Traditional challange knows I whined and complained through the whole thing because I just couldnt justify using a Traditional vs my OH Trekker. To avoid this I am going back in my set up.
Before I got the Trekker I carried a ChampionPlus, and an MP600/ST600, along with another OHO knife. Then I downsized to the Trekker and ST300. The others got to be less EDC and more because I feal like bieng diffrent today.

So I am going back to my old 3 Knife philosiphy:
"SAK paired with a Multitool, and carry a knife just for cutting"

The pic:
On the left you see my current EDC knives that are bieng benched; OH Trekker and ST300
On the right is pieces from past EDC combos;
ChampionPlus (EDC 2001-2014), ColdSteel Recon1XL (EDC randomly last 3-4yrs)
And in the middle is the subject of this endevor the Leatherman OHT in black oxide

I am hoping the fact I have to be aware of the Recon's size in public will force me to use the OHT more.
All this black is seriously MallNinja Tacticool
 :mn:

So now that my long winded intro is done lets get on with it.

Well this is an ominous start.
The sheath lasted a whole 4 hours before losing a part, the grommet.
But then again LM sheath quality has been a regular discussion here for years.

Those molle sheaths are awful :ahhh I have one of the better made ones that apparently are luck of the draw if you get one or not and it is many many many times better  Did I mention that the other molle sheath is better :D

My scattered thoughts on them

Drilling a carabiner hole in my new clipboard. (I go through 2 boards  a year)
Normaly I would use the SAK awl but then I would need something else for the OHT to do.

I am not doing too good with breaking stuff
 :crash:
This time its the kydex "wave" tab on my Recon. To top it off when I tried to re-heat and press it back on the weak spot finished opening up into a full on split.
I will have to make a new one...once I FIND my kydex stuff. My office/workshop still is a storage area from the move. At this rate my office may be set up intime to renew the lease.

Every challange there comes a lazy day where all I do is stupid work stuff over and over in every challange.
Today is one of those days.
Opening the paper towel holder with the small screwdriver.

A failed attempt to remove the Recon1's thumbstud. I tried OHT, hand vise, vicegrips, 3 screwdrivers, and heating it a little.
 :bnghd:
Nothing worked.

Time for the big guns...
Clamped it in a bench-vise on one side and vise-grips on the other.
 :viking:
It finaly worked and I installed a new Snaghletooth thumbstud/wave hook

Do you have 2 OHTs?
I had never seen a Stainless only model, a BO model or kit with stainless handle with BO tools.

So far great job.

Was it a $19 clearance? I got one as well then. As well as a bunch of knives for $75% off.  Phenomenal deal on the OHT!

Nice!
When I got mine, it was the last OHT, but I got 2 20pc double LM bit sets for $5 each, Style CS for $5, 4 Bear Grilles folding knives for $4ea, Kershaw Emerson for $6, 2 Buck fixed blades for $11ea, and a few other odds and ends.. The clerk said one guy bought 20 of the OHTs. Two days later I saw 20 OHTs on ebay for $79ea in my city. He didn't even try to pass the good fortune on by selling them for $50 or something more reasonable.
