About a year ago I got a silvertech Signature Lite - I really liked the look of the scales. But as much as I enjoyed the look of it, I missed the combo tool from Rambler. So I decided to move the silvertech scales to an older Rambler I acquired for this purpose. I already replaced in the past several scales, but never the LED version.
I was sligtly concerned how the LED modul is placed within the scales and that I may damage any exposed wiring in there. Becasue of the electronics I did not want to employ the usual preheating of the scales so I just pry them off with a Tourist small blade. It was bit difficult to insert the blade under the scales, the scales sat very tightly on the knife, but once in, it was business as usual. It turns out that the led modul is formed on the outside by a solid red plate, so no risk of damaging anything whatsoever. Finally I just put the scales on the rambler. So I have now a Silvertech Midnite Manager!
The Midnite Manager is of course very good tool, but from the scale tools perspective I find as most useful combination for me LED + toothpick. I have a Swiss Lite classic and really like this combination. So best would be to replace the pen scale with a regular one. But as far as I know the silvertech is not available as a regular 58 scale so not possible to proceed in this direction.
But I had regular Midnite Manager lying around with standard red scales so I decided to convert this into Midnite Rambler. I created a double shielded Midnite Manager. I had a little hesitation how to position the new scale - when the toothpick was in the same direction as the LED, the shield was upside down vs the other side and it looked weird so I removed them one more time and change the direction so now the toothpick is on the other side and both shields are in the same direction. I like it now! As well the proportion of the width vs. height feels better than the full midnite manager which is a bit too squared to my liking.
And final Rambler remark. With the recently acquired Princess I realized that together with a Jetsetter they represent a decomposed Rambler! How cool is that! Why to make things easy if they can be complicated, right?
