I went and saw a local band that the son of one of my friends is in. Extremely talented guitar player that I've had the pleasure of playing with.

This band is kind of a side project for him,  they are called Rampant Roots.






His main band is called Frogleg.

Last Saturday night, Marc & I tuned into Jazz FM91 and had a good time listening to some fine blues and a little rock n' roll.

I think it was after our second cocktail that we decided this Saturday's cocktail should feature Crown Royal Canadian Whisky.  :drink:

Well, the bartender here at the Speakeasy has come up with a classic cocktail, and one just perfect for Spring (or Summer), the Whisky Sour:



In my opinion, the egg white is optional. You might try whipping an egg white or two with a 1/4 teaspoon of powdered (confectioner's) sugar and a drop or two of vanilla extract. Beat that mixture until it forms soft peaks. Then make the cocktail as described, but just add a teaspoon of the beaten egg white to the top of the cocktail before serving. (Fair warning: the FDA recommends cooking egg whites before consuming.)

Simple syrup is easy to make: dissolve 1 cup of sugar in 1 cup of hot water. Store in the fridge.

So that's the featured cocktail here in the Speakeasy for this coming Saturday night, the famous and delectable Whisky Sour. Done right!

The other thing we decided is that the Speakeasy will also be serving pork ribs. I plan on roasting the ribs in the oven and then finishing them on the grill. I might post up a rib rub recipe if I get around to writing one down. If you have ideas about how to do ribs, give us some ideas.

So, to sum up: this Saturday evening: Jazz FM91 Blues at 8:00 PM EST (6:00 PM MST), Crown Royal Sours, and Pork Ribs. I hope you guys will show up and join us for a synchronized MTo Speakeasy event!

Marc is traveling and my short-term plans are a bit uncertain. However....we do intend to set up some events where the time of these events is convenient for more people than just two North Americans.

I think this will build up over time.....not that I've never been wrong before.....

Keep checking in, and bring some suggestions. This thread isn't about Marc, it isn't about Nix, it's about people getting together in a virtual space to enjoy some good music, some good 'craic' (as the Irish say), a drink or two, and some good times.

Here's the rib rub I'm going to try for this Saturday's event.....

Ingredients:
1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons Paprika
2 tablespoons  garlic powder
1 tablespoon Ancho chile powder
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground dried rosemary
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon Cayenne powder

I'll apply to the ribs Friday night and let them 'marinate' until time to cook. Should be quite tasty!
