G'Day,What would a holiday in Europe be without a visit to the SAK Motherland? We recently ventured into the Northern Hemisphere from the Land Down Under to show the kids what some of the countries in Europe looks like. On my to-do list was a visit to the SAK Museum in Brunnen. There one has the opportunity to look at some of the original models, the SAK history, and to assemble your very own SAK. With our booking in hand my son and I awaited our turn - impatiently. After what seemed to be HOURS it was our turn. I sent the boy in first. A very eager 13 year old sat down and listened carefully to the instructions. He built the knife layer for layer and finished off with a Tinker, proudly made in Brunnen. One gets the option of building a Spartan or a Tinker. Once it is assembled, the tool gets checked for tension and finally peened. He entered his engraving sentence and that carved away while I built my Tinker. Again layer for layer the bits fell into place and the tool was ready for engraving. My Tinker got checked and engraved, where-after both tools got a good dose of oil and a final check. A final handshake and both of us walked away with SAKs in hand and a chest full of pride. What a fantastic experience! I would HIGHLY recommend to go there, even if it just to look at the history and the wall of current models. One last comment on the assembly: the main blade has a very special engraving on that says: "self assembled in Brunnen". My thanks to the very fine and patient people working in the shop for sharing and entertaining our enthusiasm!!!What would a story be without the pics? Cheers,Pete
Sounds like a great trip! What other places did you visit?
