Is Halloween celebrated the same way it is in the US? With kids in costumes going door to door looking for treats,,and some minor acts of mischief? Like TPing trees and houses?

Vermont in the USA is a little odd in respect to this time of year, I know because I lived there for 4 years in the 1970's.A term for the night before Halloween used in Vermont, west suburban area of Boston ( where there are a lot of truck farms) and other rural New England "areas " is Cabbage Night. The children who live in rural areas (i.e. the entire state of Vermont ) go out into the crop fields and collect rotten veggies. Then they go to the homes of prominent people in town: wealthy old spinsters that don't hand out candy, the town banker who forcloses on family farms & homes ( should be a lot of them on the kids and adults list this year ), or the crabby old man that runs the general store and bombard them with the rotten vegi's and fruit. The night before is also called Gate Night in North Dakota. We were always told that the name came from opening farmers' gates, letting the cows out (which if you mix together a couple herds, is a terrible pain in the ass to sort out).
The adults also have parties (some) and "dress up" usually the weekend before, fun too, especially some of the wench costumes you see! (playboy bunnies, nurses, hookers etc)
