Best Packaging For Warranty Returns?
on: August 18, 2018, 10:26:18 PM
I've read a few horror stories about shipping a tool back to the manufacturer for warrant issues... Usually the issue is with the post office and a shipping envelope... I would think a small box would be as bad... I have a Leatherman PST2 to ship back, and I really don't want to go thru a insurance hassle if it is lost in shipment... So what have you guys used?... If boxes, what size?... Leatherman's warranty is great, but does me no good if the tool is lost in the mail.. Thanks for your help... Butch

I'd use a Priority Mail flat rate box, because by the time I have sent LMs and Gerbers from SW Va. to Oregon, with tracking and insurance in a bubble mailer, it came out to be the same.

I always use a box that is about
a foot long so it can’t be lost easy
And wrap the tool in loads of newspapers
Also make sure to tape the box up properly
So there is no chance that the tool could
come out of the box never lost one yet :tu:

I also used to flat rate box and duck taped the heck out of it.  You can get tape thats tamper evident.  Filament tape works pretty good too.

I just take my tool to place where they sell them and they send it to warranty.

I've almost always got a few empty shipping boxes from Amazon. Every return I've done has provided me with a printable shipping label I put on the box.

I think I've been lucky with conveniently having properly sized boxes  :D

If you don't mark it as sentimental you will get a Wave or Rebar back as a replacement.
