Vic tweezers supposed to be magnetic?
on: September 19, 2018, 03:24:24 PM
I just noticed that three pairs of victorinox tweezers (from three different knives) are mildly magnetized. Is this normal?

Pretty much all steel will pick up some magnetisation. Also, emergency compass.  :D

wait, I just answered my own question. They are not magnetic. I was just working with a needle that's been magnetized.

I just gave mine a good rub with a magnet. Magnetic effect is not strong enough to pick anything useful up. But my smartphone does notice it.

I am giving that a try as I type. I am just going to leave mine on overnight and see what happens. :)

To my knowledge, the only tools that actually were magnetized on SAKs have been the Phillips screwdriver on 58mm knives, and, sometimes, the tip of Vic's fish scaler.
Is this correct?

That sounds correct.
Possibly the straight pin too?
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Yes on the 58mm. I am looking at the minichamp and because it is magnetized you can use it as an improvised compass. I don’t know on the fish scaler.

Fish scaler can have a magnetised tip, but only on old models.
Don't remember when it was dropped exactly.

[On one of my older super tinker that i carried for years the ring is magnetized, just from friction in the pocket. It sticks to the back tools to this day  :D

You have a Minichamp with a straight pin?
