Old Cross Farmer MOD attempt.
on: September 24, 2018, 07:46:03 PM
So I got an OC Farmer with a broken saw.  I figured it was high time I tried a mod.  I've removed the outer pins and will replace with torx.  I was going to take it all apart but for some reason I stopped short.  I have been looking over the threads on how to put a 91mm scissors in.   :dunno:.  I'd like a OC Farmer X but I lack liner skills and well, all other skills to pull that off.  I'll stick to just torx pins and drilling out the 91mm saw pivot hole for now.

Wait....  Anyone have a 93mm saw sitting around?  I just need to source the torx parts and off I go.

I believe I might have a brand new saw lying around someplace on my workbench. Shoot me a PM with your address.

For the torx parts, they're 1/8" diameter not 3mm so you'll need to drill the tools, springs and liners anyway.

Thank you.  I am realizing this as I re read in earnest the SAK modding thread.  I think I'll be adventurous and attempt a Farmer X.  We'll see where this goes.  Not promising regular updates as I start I will be assembling info primarily.

As an alternative to driling out 3mm to 1/8" you can use this trick to build your own 3 mm (and 2.5 mm) pivots out of brass stock, but you'll need a lathe.

:hatsoff: WOW.  I have the most basic of tools.  It will be an attempt using basic tools and basic-er skills  :D.

You can use a Dremel and a carbide tile cutting bit (#562) to open out the holes to 1/8".

Lots of reading.  Its amazing how Syph007 got started.  To see his creations and generosity along with others in that thread is awesome.  Thank you all very much.  I'm not gonna be trying anything too fancy or anything along the lines of what in that thread.  Just a guy with a busted saw blade on an OC Farmer looking to get it back in action, with scissors I hope.   :D
