Well, it is a very rare piece.

I have a Walther but the Walther logo is almost completely worn off (if the light falls on it a certain way you can only see a vague contour that reminds it was once there...).

I paid € 80 for it. So now we know that the word "Walther" alone is worth almost € 700

By the way the guy is also selling a 108mm Fireman. So anyone who's really set on completing his/her 108mm collection (an has deep pockets) does have an opportunity to get two rare pieces  :D

I sincerely hope it was an honest bidding frenzy. And why not. I remember a buyer from the Middle East who just bought everythig and anything he liked, regardless of the price. You only need one or two of those guys and prices will skyrocket.
This happened to a couple of my SAKs as well so I'm not complaining :)

Paying that much, that gem likely went to a good home and fine collection. Always nice to know a tool is basically guaranteed to never get used, so that is one less collection piece that will be used/damaged, from someone using it, not knowing better.  :)

Nope, not me. I only wish I could justify that kind of cost per knife...or IOW, I don't know of a knife out there that I'd value that high that I want for my collection.

But if you look at the bid history detail, the winner has the two top spots. So *anybody* can see that the high bidder was willing to go higher.  Could just be the next bid increment for that price level...or who knows. The auction price is determined by the increment over what the #2 bidder is willing to pay.

It makes me wish Victorinox would do some re-issues.  Like how about an Old Cross Pioneer series in silver, red, and champagne?   And can you imagine if they did a true Swiss Rail Black Beauty re-issue?  MTo members would buy the lot!
