Choices... why is the world so cruel??!!
on: January 06, 2019, 10:44:09 AM
My three favorite knives...

My Pioneer X with key ring nub ground off, my Boker Tech Tool City 2 CountyComm.com special with Vic 93mm awl replacing the serrated blade, and my newest JE Made slip joint.

It’s so hard to choose which to carry!!!!!

I’m thinking the Boker for work, as the G10 scales should prove better for work environment.   Then the PX for around the house use. Finally the JE Made slippy as my “gentlemen’s” Knife for the weekend when I’m out and about.

Arrgghhhh!!!!!  So hard to choose!!!!!!

As I said, those are my three FAVORITES.  I still have many others I like to carry as well. Just too many choices!!!!  Haha

How do those of you with many many many decide what to carry??

I have 4 leathermans (Charge, Rebar, Kick and OHT), but I only EDC my Rebar as I custom made it for my “wants & needs”.

I used to EDC my charge and my Kick, and I did EDC my OHT for a little while. But my custom Rebar just works for me and so far I have not come across a situation where it didn’t get me out of trouble.

As a knife I have a few cheap knives that are just in a drawer at home, but my EDC knife is a 111mm Victorinox Hunter, which I did a lot of research on before buying to make sure that it was the right one for me. It has a good size blade, good size saw (that works surprisingly well) as well as a small serrated “gutting”  blade which so far has proven itself surprisingly useful, especially due to its curved design where its only the inside of the curve that is sharp, rest of it is round and smooth, so that you can get it in e.g. a zip tie and cut the zip tie without damaging the plastic bag.....also this “gutting blade” eats through rope and whatever cord you throw at it like a hot knife through butter.
The awl in it is surprisingly good too, it will work it’s way through everything from concrete, wood, leather etc. with ease too.

In all honesty, I am quite surprised that the Hunter model isn’t more popular than it is, it’s actually a very over seen model, compared to e.g. a forester model. Because fa a really good knife and it has all the tools you need in a knife without entering “multitool territory” and for the same reason it’s fairly light too being only a 3 layer SAK, so it isn’t uncomfortable to carry on your belt or even in your pocket

Like you, I have favorites to carry.

Mostly:
- Vic Spirit/LM Charge
- Vic Compact/84mm Golfer/84mm Climber
- Spyderco UKPK S110V

Amongst the others, there's a decent amount of shelf queens, and some others that I feel comfortable with using. These range from an Outrider (when hiking) to an Evo18. I sometimes take a random one from those users just to keep things rotated a bit, but find myself grabbing back to those in the first section most of the time.

With the growing collection, I might start to sell/trade off a few SAKs that were very special to me at first, but became less so when the very rare stuff arrived...

Well, just rotate your EDC. Once in awhile I like to carry different knives, just 'cause I like them and feel good having them on me. I might even carry my base EDC and just carry the extra knife along.
