Bustin' out the traditionals, a 30-day challenge

Here is your invitation for a month-long sojourn into the wonderful world of Traditional pocket knives!





We’ve got quite a few fans of the traditional folding knife here at MTo, and Barry and I were hoping to have some fun with these knives in July. Toward that end, we are setting up a 30-day Traditional folder challenge for July, 2019. If you don't have a traditional yet, there is still time to pick one up, perhaps second hand, and try out the knife your Grandfather might have used and depended on.

This is meant to be fun, but there will be a few rules, as always, for these types of challenges:

1. Carry and use a Traditional Folder for the month of July (the 1st through the 30th)
2. While accessory tools are permitted as necessary, participants are expected to use a traditional folder as their primary knife/tool
3. Post a photo and a brief description of how the ‘trad’ got used (or not) for that day.
4. It used to be the case (no pun intended) a person was lucky to have just one cherished pocket knife and would use that knife exclusively. Barry and I will both be using our cherished Sodbusters exclusively for this challenge. While the rules allow the carry of various traditional knives over the course of the 30-day period, we’d like to encourage participants to use just one knife for the entire challenge. Get to know that Traditional! How well does that model do, day-in and day-out?




Nothing is certain yet, but there will likely be a couple of sub-challenges and a GAW or two during this July challenge. We’ll see. In any event, there is a badge to be earned!




Or, if you plan on using a GEC folder, you could go for the 30-GEC challenge….




So, pick up a new traditional or sharpen the one you have and let’s plan for a fun July using these classic knives the way they were meant to be!  :tu:
Merit Badges Start a new thread and post a photo of an Executive or Director for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the pen for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participants shall carry and use one Soldier knife, the model of their choosing, for the duration of the 90 days and post a picture each day. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Delemont SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a challenge thread and post a photo of a SAK Cybertool (any variant), Swisschamp, Champion or Toolchest for sixty (60) consecutive days. Participate in a challenge by carrying  a GEC knife and post a photo of it  for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo daily of any SAK 74mm or smaller ( you can switch it up daily ) for thirty (30) consecutive days. Build your own version of an MRE using off-the-shelf components, post a photo of the completed MRE and store at room temperature for 6 days or more. Consume the MRE after the storage period and post pictures and descriptions of the contents. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Farmer X SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Using EDC items randomly selected with a poker hand, post a photo of your EDC or a component of the EDC that got used during the course of the day for 4 weeks (or 30 consecutive days) Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of your EDC or a component of the EDC that got used during the course of the day for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a Leatherman Skeletool for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate and contribute in Challenge thread and post a photo of either an Axe, MT/Folding knife or Fixed blade (picked at the beginning of challenge) for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a Spyderco knife for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate and contribute in Challenge thread and post a photo of a different blade each day for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a SAK Soldier for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the multitool for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Fieldmaster SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Just been thinking about this... I think I'd like to have a small selection, maybe just three or four, to chose from depending on what I'm doing that day. Maybe something as simple as small, medium and large - small for town, medium for work and large for country?
