Ice Storm
on: December 13, 2008, 07:07:26 PM
In New England, we got a wicked ice storm. It started out as rain, and then all the rain froze. Nevertheless, I still don't have power since Friday morning at around 2 AM. Because of the ice, I lost a birch tree in my front law. It snapped because of all the ice.. I noticed that ALL the birch trees are down! So, my house doesn't have electricity. We slept there last night, but it was 47 degrees in the house. I was fine with it, but my Fiance wasn't! So, we are staying at the in laws... BTW, 2AA maglites with the cluster LED upgrade work phenomenally for power outages. They are not too bright, and they go into candle mode! I have been told the power won't come back until Monday. What's weird is that there are certain parts of my town that have power.. Like, a neighborhood over!! So, I will keep you guys posted!

BTW, HC in Douglas MA has power!

*Cough cough* You are sleeping with your fiance and you couldn't figure out a way to make heat and keep her warm?  :D

But yeah power outage in winter is tough, I have a bunch of candle/battery/butane canister stored to last a few days just for this reason.

Yeah, it was! I had thermal pajamas and I was nice though! I could have easily stayed there!

How cold do you think it will get in your house before the power comes back on?

How cold is it outside right now?

Next day all good. Unfortunatly i did go to work in the middle of the storm and we played cards for 5 hrs by flashlight. All better now but did spend the majority of the day at a friends in Marlboro whom had no power and was flooding his basement. So I took a pump and jenny from my home and got him dry.

You're a useful guy to know  :tu: :)

The worst we get is the power going off for a few hours and we moan like anything about that  ::)

Hope everyone gets sorted soon.

Good luck with your plumbing. I hope you don't get any busted pipes from freezing. At least you have another place to stay. God bless the in-laws!  :salute:

That sounds like quit an adventure! I cannot remember we had power problems like that. Or that cold for that matter. We have 3 centimeters of snow and the entire country is in a stat of emergency  :o We are got pretty used that nothing ever happens over here.
Good for you, you got out alright.

(See, now you know you should not kill the inlaws  :D )

:D I am surprised the pilot light didn't go out... I thought I would have had to re-light it but I guess not.. Word to the wise, buy a few 2AA MagLites w/ Nite Ize cluster LED upgrades from Walmart. They work excellent in candle mode, and they last a LONG time! I couldn't find any AA batteries, so I took them out of one of the remotes! That's why I like AAA/AA lights!
