Black Explorer
Purchased in 1997. My partner had gone to the ladies room and I was bored - spotted the Vic display stand and chose the Explorer. It just seemed the most useful layout then, even today if I still cared for Victorinox I would probably choose the Explorer. Philips, scissors and magnifier were what swayed  me.
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

My former brother in law's first Vic was an Explorer. He lost it, and promptly replaced it with another.

BTW, what is this "if I still cared for Victorinox" all about?? *Squints with piercing open eye looking over glasses*

My first SAK was a Vic Astronaut/Master Craftsman I bought in 1981 with my first week’s pay from working in Tesco part time while starting to study for my A-levels - it was my only SAK for 10 years when I bought a 91mm Golfer which was more pocket friends and had a pen and mini screwdriver to repair specs with! I still have it now, though I’ve since given it blue + scales (though the scissor spring has been replaced a couple of times!) so that I always have an emergency pen to hand:

My first was a 1975-80ish Champion that I took hiking and backpacking for many years. Still have it along with a 1990-2000ish Champ. My major EDC is a Tinker.

Mine was a huntsman bought in around 2000.
Kept it on my keys and gave it away and replaced with another when it had lost both of its scales through dropping my keys.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

my first one was a Craftsman from the 1980ies which got from my uncle somewhere between 1993 ad 1996. Don't know where it went.

Two years ago I came across the same model on a flea market...

Do Wengers count?

If not it was this Explorer that was later used to blow up a multi tool.

Here is a picture I found of the multi tool we destroyed at the behest of a member here.

The tool had already been shot by my SASS and run over by a APC so wasn’t in the best of condition already.

My first SAK was a Camper with a grooved corkscrew and an awl without the sewing eye. I got it for either my 10th or 11th birthday in the midst of a MacGyver obsession ( who am I kidding, I’m still obsessed!). I carried that thing with me everywhere I could, secured in a brown leather belt sheath. And since I spent a lot of my spare time running through the woods near my house or my grandparents, that saw got a lot of use in cutting branches to make new forts or strengthen existing ones. I found that Camper recently going through a box of old stuff and noticed that I had broken the tip of the main blade through youthful ignorance and neglect. In searching for a way to reprofile it, I found this forum, which also led me to SAKwiki. Browsing around there led me to the Huntsman, which I promptly bought to be my EDC as it had the amazing saw plus the scissors which everyone raved about. That led to Compact. Which led to a Cybertool 34. Which led to a Super Tinker. Which led to a….

My first was a Champion, or more likely a Chinese copy, I´m not sure.

I lost it in a knife throwing contest. I was just a little kid you know.

Sorry for the late response, don’t frequent the forum as often these days

Victorinox... basically bores me senseless
Bland and dull. The load out is replicated to death these days. At one time Vic were as bold  as Wenger when it came to innovation - but these days they are so predictable. I gave up even looking at them  let alone reading about them.
The brand bores me rigid.
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

So Wenger "these days" is being innovative?
Rather mundane quote entered here to approximate humor.

Mine was my Huntsman, which my Dad got for me in October 1983.  I went on to EDC it for the next 32 years.

My very first sak was a champion, given to me by my grandfather after keeping his promise that he would give me one when I turned 12 almost 29yrs ago, 2yrs before that I saw his very same one and fell in love, needless to say those 2yrs were the worst, and only months after receiving my sak I lost it in the woods, yet a year later I face planted while running around all to find something literally glowing under a leaf, one whole year of seasons it just sat up in the woods, I must say it really helped break the leather in! But I cleaned it up and learned to make sure not to lose things! Yet I did break the corkscrew by drilling it into a branch,
After my grandfather passed the one thing I wanted was his Sak, as bad as this sounds I had it taken apart, the corkscrew repaired my retired first sak, the saw is part of another knife, and the scales, the one most important part was made into a little something, he carved our last name into the one side and that sits atop my little display, while my sak sits in his sheath, his had the steel, mine didn’t, I was so mad at the time! And yet when both of our kids turned 12 I did the same thing and bought them champion plus, but here’s a pic of mine

My very first SAK was a Wenger Backpacker 2 that I found while I was at a scouting event when I was just a kid.  That little knife started a lifelong obsession..

What was your first?

I bought a Huntsman in 1979 when I was a Freshman in college.  Kept in my backpack all through college and still have it today!

Small Tinker with square shank Phillips screwdriver that I bought with lawn mowing money in the late 1970's.  Still have the box and maybe the receipt.
