Beware of coping saws - not for the squeamish
on: June 22, 2019, 03:15:47 AM
Wasn't paying attention where my right hand was while cutting a block off with a coping saw. Cut finished before I expected, so it went over to my finger for a visit.
Luckily the bone stopped the cut. :ahhh

Beware of coping saws. They look harmless, but can bite.

Looks like pretty decent stitch work, the knots leave a bit to be desired but the approximation is clean and the spacing is good.

Should be a nice thin scar if you take care of it properly.

Thank you for the information, Wes! Will definitely take care of it! :salute:

He did take quite a while tying them up. Seemed like he knew what he was doing, but didn't have a lot of practice.  :ahhh

I don't know anything about sewing people up, so it is a relief they look good. Thank you!

I also went ahead and asked them for a Tetanus shot, since it had been probably ten+ years since I had one, and the piece I was working on had been stored in a barn.  To close to manure for comfort.  :dwts:

Yeah, if it has been that long then the Tetanus booster was an excellent idea.

Have a safe, restful weekend!  :D

Indeed. It should prove frustrating trying to work tomorrow.

Very true, it could have been a run away sabre saw or something with the finger cut off.  :ahhh

Oh man. Look, if you'd cut your finger here I could have used the awl with sewing eye for the stitching - I certainly need the practice! :P

But ouch, a nasty accident. Serious injuries that impede movement are frustrating and I bet your finger throbs like anything, so all the best for a quick healing. :salute:

I wish I had taken a photo of it before the stitches. It is kind of neat looking into a wound like that and seeing how much damage a little saw blade grazing your hand can do. Feels so different when it's your own body. :ahhh

Thank you much, Sparky!  :salute:

Maybe a new signature?

It is amazing that people used to have to be stitched up in the field like that.  :dwts:

If I'm ever in your neck of the woods and get a cut like that, we'll see if the sewing awl does the trick. :ahhh

Indeed. The throbbing is frustrating, especially when using hand tools. :-\
