Some TLC required - and dating wanted
on: July 15, 2019, 05:51:27 PM
This Bantam belongs to one of my coworkers.

The blade needs some work. It´s a classic story.
´Can I borrow your knife for a moment?´ -- ´Sure!´

:ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I´m wondering if anybody can put a date on the knife.

I think it is a 2.0501 from around 1985 Ron  :hatsoff:

Removing the damaged part of the blade wasn´t too difficult.
The blade´s shorter now but you wouldn´t notice if you didn´t know.
Next step is put a decent edge on it.

Note:
The way I reprofiled the blade causes the tip to be somewhat higher up.
There is a limit to this because if I do too much the tip will extend above the scales, and snag.

I´ll put a new edge on the blade this evening, and clean the knife.
Pics tomorrow because of lack of proper daylight.

Nice work Ron

I remember once i had the ´Can I borrow your knife for a moment?´ i thought nothing of it, gave him it and carried on with what i was doing, a couple of minutes later i looked round and he was scraping concrete off the tipper door of his truck, never again...

Big 'V' on the tang says it's post-late-'86.

Big 'R' crossbow tang with the + touch ends before '94/'95, at the latest. By the look of it, I'd say this one is late '80s.

I like the new blade profile.

I sharpened the blade so it does well on the paper cutting test, but it doesn´t shave.

Ron....
The combo tool changed in 1985.

Does it have stop at 90 degrees??
If so, it’s 90’s, if don’t 85-89.

Good work mate

Thanks MC .

That and other posts leave me to conclude late eighties - early nineties.
Good enough for me.

The only solution to this is either carrying a beater knife or do the job for your friend...it always amazes me how a knife becomes a 'multitool' in so many inconceivable ways as soon as I lend it out.

Reading the title I will as expecting this to be a lonely hearts thread for single mto members

Often at work I would get requests from co workers to borrow some tool or another and I would always answer with what do you want it for so I could nip any inappropriate use in the bud with a “no”.

Great work on the re profiling of your buddies knife.
My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.
