Help: Looking for specific handle shape and Axis lock
on: December 19, 2008, 07:33:35 PM
I've had a BM Griptillian 551 for a few months now and love the Axis lock. The handle shape, though, I've grown less fond of. The first good knife I ever bought was a CRKT M21-14 which is also the same design as CRKT's M16 series. I love the way the handle feels on the M21, the way its belly is curved in the middle (is there a name for this design?) as opposed to the Griptillian's curve-upwards then sloping down to the back design. I'd like to find a knife with the style of the M21 handle but with an Axis lock. Anyone got any recommendations?

If you specifically need an Axis lock then you have to go with Benchmade as they own that particular pattern.  I'm not up on all the current BM models, but you could try looking through the BM website at www.benchmade.com or try the "Knife Wizard" here:  http://www.benchmade.com/products/knife_wizard.aspx

I've since learned that SOG's Axis lock, Cold Steel's Ultra Lock, and H&K  Axis Lock are pretty much the same thing as Benchmade's Axis Lock. I've been thru BM's site countless times and the only thing that comes close is their 14210 Snody designed knife, which is actually an H&K design(IIRC).

So I handled a Spyderco Paramilitary a while back and liked it. I just may go with that. Many  :tu: for the Compression Lock it has. The handle shape is very comfortable. I have to send my revised list to Santa quick!  :D
