Probably already asked but...custom Compact
on: July 22, 2019, 10:18:23 AM
Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum but I always read it...just brand new registered user.

I love Victorinox and own several, but I never went the "custom" way .
My fav model is the Compact (I wish Victorinox will come out with more models like this) but I'd like to have it modified to my specific needs,
like adding one layer for the saw and replacing the corkscrew with a philips.
Does someone already did something similar and if so can you share your experiencies and pics?
Also is there any aftermarket shop in Europe willing to modify SAK's with custom tool configuration?

I apologize if the question has already been asked...

Thank you!!

If you want to do it yourself there is a really good sticky in the mod section and if you start looking around in that section you will find a lot of different configurations to drool over.

And yes your mod can be done as far as my knowledge goes

Compact is a really cool 2 layers that I recently learn to love.  What you've described should be relatively easy job, given you have some essential tools to mod and a 91mm Hiker as a donor.

I made something similar a while back, I added the small blade instead of the combo tool.

Cheers!

Beautiful!
That is exactly what I have in my mind, aside the fact I prefer to keep the small combo tool.
I bet it works like a charm!!!!

Unfortunately at the moment I miss the tools to do that in a very precise way...

Sure. Both you and kottskrapa are right and I shall give a try modding by miself...
I found the sticky...seems a precise work (I suck in precision work...much better to fell a tree for me...but I might give a try).

As for the other question, aside from custom mods is there anyone in Europe you can commission such custom SAK?

Hi SAKVenture. One thing to consider is the cost. There are beautiful modded SAKs you can commission, but most are for collection and not so much for hard everyday use. Unless you are prepared to pay several times the cost of a standard SAK, you may want to have a go at modding yourself. Alternatively, have another look at current and discontinued models...there may be one that’s a match for your needs. Modding is as much about the fun and challenge of creating something unique as it is about addressing a specific user need. Just my 2c.  :salute:

Here is an article from Carryology about custom SAKs.  It mentions a modder in Germany (Chris Custom Works) and Russia (Decustom Forge).

:iagree:  Personally, for a 91mm mod, the only thing that kinda needs 'precision' is drilling/dremeling out the rivet bushing.  So as long you take care not to damage them, pretty much the rest is just reassembly and peening it back.  There are numerous how-to threads in our Mod squad, and don't hesitate to hollower if you can't find the answer you need or running into problems.

I think it's fair to say all these modders mentioned in the article are top of the line modders around the world. :tu:

Good luck joining the SAK world of mods!

Exchanging the CS for a Phillips isn't an onerous project.  Take some time to read the modding threads and have a plan for your pin stock. Remember to be careful with the bushings and don't over-peen as you complete the effort.
