Day 1
My humble contribution to start September. Yeoman mod with the older magnifier and longer Phillips. Nice 3-layer SAK.

Day 1 - Essential party tools

Yesterday evening I went to a birthday party.
It reminded me that a SAK is not a real SAK if it can´t open bottles.
I got up late today and don´t expect any use of the Green Hornet.

September 1 - my modified pioneer, with titanium liners and bolsters with ironwood scales is already at work. I'm working preparing hay to be bailed on my farm today (farmers don't always get days off).  Looking forward to this months challenge.

Day 1

I almost forgot that it's already September, but I'm here and ready for the challenge, below are my two mods I'm taking part with. Both are Yeoman-derivatives, the black one, made by our friend Mags, is the "Examiner" (nicknamed X-man) with a 93mm inline awl, back side Phillips, nail file hook and combo tool opposite the magnifier, the other one is a nameless one from eBay from a Portuguese modder, with reddish orange G10 scales and a chisel in place of the corkscrew.

Some great mods/customs from everyone so far, this will be a very interesting month!

Looking at all the posts so far, I find it interesting how many of the Mods have a magnifying glass and/or combo tool.  I imagine this is because of how few current SAK models have those tools.

Well, IMHO we're talking about two very different implements here. The magnifier is bespoke in function and one of a kind (disregarding for the moment the various historical variations) whereas the combo tool is more of a space saving compromise between can opener and cap lifter. For this reason I think the combo tool would probably only ever be considered in SAKs with a limited number of layers, whereas the magnifier is more likely found in bigger mods. I am no longer sure how relevant these comments are

You’re correct DT. I made a similar comment earlier today. You begin to lose the advantage of the Combo Tool past 4-layers as you’re really then outside comfortable pocket carry, and may as well go back to a separate opener layer. The beauty of the Combo Tool is keeping a SAK to 3 or less layers.  :salute:

You may want to change your font size as its small. Very small. If you hit the Preview button next to the Post button, you can then see how it will look before you post. Just a thought. :tu:

Nice electrician and I look forward to seeing your new mod.

I use the Tapatalk app to access the forum from my iPad.  With Tapatalk you can upload photos directly from the iPad and it asks the size you want.

Day 1:

Thought I’d join if that’s ok?

I don’t have too much in the way of modded SAKs but for now I’ll start with my Pioneer X.

Basic silver but I modded the can opener into a longer reach, smaller flat head driver.   Also added a Nite Ize Hip Clip.

Not much modification, but it’s not oem stock anymore. Haha

Well, used to...

I use Tapatalk on my iPhone and recently it stopped asking what size to use, BUT now allows me to pic multiple pics at one time...

I’m currently trying to gather parts for a custom build.

Going to turn my MT.O red Pioneer X into a custom. Will add the metal saw/file from a Mountaineer and the inline Phillips driver, to be placed across from the bottle and can openers, placed side by side.

I have the file with my Mountaineer and the inline Phillips driver with my Explorer. I just need a Harvester for the saw back spring ( to be used with the file...) and spacer to be used in the opener/inline Phillips driver layer.

Then I’ll send all off to be torn apart and rebuilt into my red alox custom.
