2020 Classic 58mm Design Contest open for voting
Hi Guys

Here we go 'Sports of the World' for 2020 Limited Edition Classics.

http://voting.victorinox.com/uk/en/

This year is one of the best I reckon
Interestingly a few sports feature a couple times

What I really like about this year is how the designers have used the shape of the Classic in many of the designs

Ballet is a sport  ???

The Skateboarding design is very clever - love that one!

A Formula 1 car with a windscreen

Some nice ones! But there have already been too many shoe based designs IMHO.

I agree they've done shoes already so those designs don't appeal but I rather liked the ballet design. Whether it's a sport? Well they think so .... good to see badminton appear

I thought there some really neat designs this year - despite the shoe design, I liked the hiker! The diver and bike were close second, shame you only get one vote! :dunno:

The soccer ball image is wrong. There should be pentagons as well.

I thought the images were really, really good this year
Finally worked out what was going on in the Swiss wrestling image - It's a bit confusing

And as a climber, hiker, cyclist and skiier - All my sports made it into the set ..... although where was rugby ?  ???
And the World Cup is even happening right now - I don't think there was even a rugby entry

I don't collect these LEs - But over the years I have bought one or two I liked and have given a few as presents
- But I can see I might just have to buy four of these

The soccer ball image is wrong. There should be pentagons as well.
Its portrayal of reality was inaccurate, but people voted for it anyway in their thousands because they thought it looked cool.

Hi Guys,

The Victorinox Annual Design Competition for the Classic looks like it’s an on-going thing.
I thought we should have a thread that follows this event, where we can announce the voting, the results and people can post pictures of their SAKs, and generally comment on these (usually) lovely Classics. :tu:

Does that sound OK ?  ???

Assuming it does –  ;)
- I have updated the title of this thread so it can become that thread
- I will add some posts on the competition from previous years to the post below
- I have added this thread to the SAK Clubs thread under Features

Very nice video from the Honey Bee designer for 2017.

Just a regular person from a village in Switzerland - She seems so surprised she won !!

Anyone got any yet?
We also a need a link to the Wiki page for these series in this thread. (Can't believe this was not already here  :twak:)
https://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Victorinox+Classic+SD+Limited+Edition+Annual+Series

The page was created by Nick4  :tu: (with a little help from me!) and the poster provided by NeleDo (of course)  :salute:  Thanks lads
It has already been updated with this year's models   :woohoo:

Hi Folks,

Well the theme for next year's edition is 'Patterns of the World' !!
https://www.victorinox.com/global/en/Swiss-Army-Knives/Our-Pocket-Knives/Classic-Limited-Edition/cms/classic-limited-edition

Pretty interesting  :o  - And a bit more abstract/esoteric than usual!! - Although harks back to some of the earlier (terrible IMHO !! :) ) designs done solely by Vic!

If you wanted to submit a design - It's too late! .......... The design submission phase has closed - I only just checked on this today

Watch out for the voting phase!

2021 Results are in

My Internet country connection is all over the place and I could only find the German site:

https://www.victorinox.com/de/de/Taschenmesser/Inspiration/Classic-Limited-Edition/cms/classic-limited-edition

They are OK - But not so keen on the pattern designs this year - Although the Edelweiss, Cat, Ocean and Mexican ones are pretty nice

Finally worked out what was going on in the Swiss wrestling image - It's a bit confusing
What is confusing?
They wear traditional garb: regular pants and shoes, shirt (traditionally light blue with Edelweiss on it, like one of the guys in the image wears) and the special short over-pants that give you a firm grip (commonly in beige)

and of course the bull is the first prize.

Btw, these events are big in Switzerland drawing a large crowd (Last year, the national event had over 350'000 visitors over 3 days). And the funny thing about them are, they have very little security. You step out of line, the athletes will throw you out (despite being called die Bösen (evil) they are the good guys). At the national event, the winner is crowned king for a year. So yeah, Switzerland has royalty too (btw, the winner of the national shooting competition is crowned king too).

What is confusing?

I could not make out the bodies (or legs)  - The ginger head is hard to see unless you zoom in

and of course the bull is the first prize.
Not 'of course' to me - I thought he was just a nice Swiss cow      :twak:

Thanks for the Swiss culture lesson Mr. E - Love it !!!    :tu:

SAKs and SAKWiki are great places to learn about Switzerland and Swiss culture/history eg Battle Series, Valloton Saugy  etc

Now that I have looked at it in more detail, the only confusing thing is how skinny the left arm of the dark-haired dude is. :P

Had King Arthur been Swiss, then the knights of the round table would ride into battle on bulls :D
Btw, I just noticed that the mountains behind the bull look very familiar... but I think they missed a sorta iconic building ;)

Nope, Ginger Dude we only see the lower half of the arm and it is decently bulky... it is black hair dude that has skinny arms
