30 Day Tread (or fakey) Challenge
on: October 11, 2019, 12:51:35 AM
So, how about a 30 day Leatherman Tread challenge, or those that use the fake versions?  :D

Day 1 - Mine from yesterday, using Tread to tighten headrest bolt on a TerraTrike Rover.

Day 2 - Removed an older plugin block that blew its protection circuitry. Had to put a protective plate back over the receptacle for safety.

Had stuck a temporary magnet inside Link 2, until I can find another one that is more suitable.

Anyhow, lost a screw on the floor. Used the magnet to picked it up from the carpet. Oh yeah, time to vacuum too.

Wonder if there is a link available for the Tread that has security screw for adjusting Leatherman tools, such as the Charge TTi v1??

 Day 4

Bought a Kickstarter on break. My fingernails were too short to open the tab. Could of used the Piranha but gave the Tread a go at it. Flathead got a bite.  :D

Tonight while wearing the Tread, was getting a slight irritation above it at the base of my palm. Was not sure if it was a couple of screw heads poking me or something that was on the Tread. And I had been wearing it continuously

Since was merchandising at Walmart I used their concentrated hand soap. Worked wonders! Even made the DLC costing more shiny.  :D

When I got the Tread I used hand soap, but this Walmart concentrated soap did way better!

  Day 5
Just had to try out the bottle opener. Leatherman has changed this area on the Tread from the first one I had. The bottle opener is shorter, with a stouter fulcrum. Seemed more difficult to pop open a bottle cap. Got a bite nearer to one side as opposed to the middle. Tried twice. In the car was harder to get a photo and open the bottle. At home I used a tripod to help capture an image.

Then decided to add a group photo  :D  For kicks. This newer Tread bottle opener does not damage the bottle cap compared to other tools, if that matters.

Think I found a suitable magnet to fit inside the links, although had to buy 10 of them. Will see then they get here. Hopefully I will not have to modify the magnets to fit.

The interior of three links could hold Leatherman's bits, and I think they did this on purpose. There is just enough play to not hold the bits snugly.

Am guessing Leatherman had left the option open for people to super magnetize their bits to slide up in there
... or ...
Leatherman's engineers was considering having an ultra thin bit carrier that could slide up inside carrying a bit. That carrier could cover the ends of the bits so as not to poke the wearer.

Another theory is that Leatherman was considering on making shorter bits to be magnetized and stored in the Tread. After all, the Tread does indeed have a 1/4" hex driver to use flat or full sized 1/4" bits.

Guess I should or rephrased the title, as this is a genuine Tread. Thought perhaps others would of joined in with their real or fakey versions, Ah well. :P

Yesterday an Assistant Manager was leaving Walmart to manage a new local Bluebird Car Wash. Super cool guy and former LEO. Bought him a bag of Screaming Sriracha  Doritos as a parting gift. Wrote some things all over the bag, but needed to tape the receipt to the bag (purchase verification). Asked a cashier for some tape, and used the strap cutter on the Tread to cut the tape. Did not think to grab a photo at the time.

It's difficult to get photos at times.  :ahhh

A lil' late. Can i participate?

Sure! Anyone can. The more the merrier.

Was pondering getting a different link to replace the skinny Leatherman one, though I would miss the occasional use of an eyeglass screwdriver. Not that I use one, but its when. And there is no stock square bits. Thought the original v1.0 had a square bit driver on it. Then was looking at the Ryobi battery packs, and they have the T-10 Security Bit and wondered if there was a #10 Torx bit on the Tread ... sadly only #20 is the smallest it goes. /grr ya know!

Then with so many GoPro and similar cameras, noticed too that Leatherman does not have an open wrench for a GoPro Handle... yet they have one for an Oxygen Wrench.

And... you know there are three bits that can hold something inside. The others are blocked off. And we all know Leatherman does not do this for sheeps and giggle. There had to be a reason. Then got to thinking, what if there was a long spring, with a V catch in the middle, that slid up inside those Tread links, and the end pieces would slip over the edge of the link. Maybe one spring, or two, with enough grip to hold it in there. Then a person could slide a bit up inside, and that little V would catch on the dip in the Leatherman bit.
Wonder how hard it would be to make such a thing, perhaps aftermarket sell those Bit Springs?  ::)

I apologize for the late post. Our public hub has been infested with Roku & Xbox users like 24/7. Wished I had a wifi range extender that could compete. Spent the last 2 hours to get online... anyhoo...

Was working late, stopped off for a pizza. Desperately wanted to open a Body Armor drink and dern fingers were too gosh darn slippery! Had no napkins, so had this idea hit me. Use the Tread, James... so, I gave it a go. Who knew?  :o

And was showing the Tread off earlier in the day to a friend on Messenger.

Day 7 - Sharpened SIM Probe to Needle. There are times when a needle is more useful than a SIM card ejector. Sharpened the tip to a point, and removed a sliver that was bugging me.  ;)

Day 8 - Tightening Mirrycle Mirror joints. Just enough to give in if brushed up against. Occasionally they get too loose and need tightened up more.
