Anything to watch for or avoid when cleaning/maintaining an Explorer or any other SAK with a magnifier?  Thanks........

I typically pop it out and lay it aside. I'm always afraid of scratching it.

The big problem I've got is the electronic parts. My Master Gardener could use some cleaning to get rid of old oil, but I've never cleaned it.

Actually, i dont have one yet but im hoping to find one under the tree next month.  So, what do you mean by "pop it out"? It's  removeable?

With the most recent version (glass lens, 6X in transparent plastic surround, I can simply push the lens with my finger, and it pops right out. Pops right back in just as easily.

But, with the first (8X, glass lens molded into gray plastic surround) and the second (one piece of plastic) you cannot remove the lenses.

I have not had a single issue with scratching when cleaning the gray mag ones, however. I have 2 SAKs with the old gray lens (Outdoorsman, SwissChamp) and two with the most recent 6X removable lens (Champion, Explorer).

You probably might know this, but please do be careful if you plan to use alcohol to clean the tools, which may melt the scale.

As for the Mag glass, I always leave it above the hot water if I was changing/taking off the scale of the SAK, just in case the hot water soften the plastic too much or melt it out of shape, and the lens may pop out too easily.

I use an ultrasonic cleaner and either cold or warm water. No issues yet.
A little Leatherman information.

Don't just stay away from alcohol, but most organic cleaners  - especially acetone (nail polish remover) - will melt/craze scales.
