I'm hunkered down in the Chicago area with my wife and youngest son.  The older two live in D.C. and Austin, TX.  This Forum has been a nice diversion from worrying about family, friends and life as we know it.  I'm sending positive vibes to all of you wherever you may be on this planet.  Stay safe and healthy!

So far so good over here. We all have a long road to go though, wherever we may be.

Follow all advice given, no matter how tedious or frustrating, and let's all get through this unscathed.  :salute:

Best wishes to all

I'm a Surgical First Assistant (CSFA/CST) out in central California where the Anesthesia Association just recommended a halt on all elective surgery and my Hospital's committee came down with a policy of only doing urgent/emergent surgical cases where there is a possibility of loss of life or limb to reduce the exposure rate on the patients that do have to come in.

The surgery center I work at has closed down for the next 3-4 weeks while at the hospital network I work for the surgical teams are planning to be on reduced hours and prepping to float to other departments as needed. The flipside is that since I am the youngest person on my team by about 20 years it also means I might be picking up most of everyone else's call and OT as many of them are going to have to self quarantine or be forced into it due to health issues to protect them.

Should be interesting times for the foreseeable future.

Stay safe all and follow directions as they come, please.

I'm glad to hear that your team is anticipating what will likely be a 'long hard time'. This covid crisis is going to stress many medical departments. Stay healthy!

NZ is preparing for four weeks of almost total lockdown in 18 hrs. We've been lucky to have had relatively few cases so far (though increasing more or less exponentially) and no deaths.

The business I work for will be officially closed but I expect to keep working some. A plant nursery needs to be kept alive, at least.

Wishing safety and good health to all!  :salute:

Sure going to be an interesting four weeks, not sure if I count as an essential worker yet, but it looks like, I, or my employer have little choice, as Daycare is closing anyway and I have little monsters to look after

Wife and I are both public librarians and dreading dealing with "the public" especially at my branch. But the good news is out system of 17 branches is now closed and we still have jobs in that we are reporting to work for phone duty and general cleaning.

What I want to know is why that the more people talk about not touching your face my face itches?    :ahhh

All the best to MTO and the World at large!

Was just saying to my wife yesterday that I was surprised no one had started a thread like this yet, given how tight knit and international the MTO community is.  I do water, wastewater, and public works for a city of about a quarter million people, so we're scrambling to keep essential public services running while protecting our workers too.  I'm just glad I'm not in charge of figuring this out for first responders.

Just a quick public service announcement for folks who have run out of toilet paper.  Please don't flush anything other than toilet paper and kleenex.  Even if (especially if) an alternate consumer product says it's "flushable," don't flush it.  This designation is a sure sign that something is not flushable.  Sewer systems across the country are seeing an increase in sewer blockages due to the C-19 panic.  Imagine being at home caring for a sick loved one and your sewer backs up into your basement because your neighbor didn't heed this advice.  Bad situation made worse, and totally preventable.

Best wishes all.

Myron

We are pretty much 'locked-down' in Michigan.  It's a challenge to acquire certain items.  But it is, what it is.  Staying busy with my camera and knives.  My wife, and I are higher-risk candidates, so I exercise caution; if I have to go out.  On a lighter note, gasoline prices are bottoming-out.  I always have my stroll down to the dumpster, if I need fresh-air; or step-out on the balcony.  Plenty of cleaning to do around the house, that's been neglected over the winter.  Wishing everyone well.  Keep-chilling everybody.  Peace out!  :tu:

Our government has just announced a 3 week lock down. They say it won't be policed so we'll see if people play ball.

Our government has just announced a 3 week lock down. They say it won't be policed (yet) so we'll see if people play ball.

Stay Frosty Knights  :multi:

Tweaked.

The police will be able to enforce with dispersals and fines, but I suspect there's more to follow

The online version of the announcement doesn't just mention police, but also "other enforcing authorities". If the hard of thinking don't start co-operating, we might see some camo on the streets.

Apparently only 250 of the 20,000 strong Covid task force have currently been deployed, and they're the ones assigned with logistics to the hospitals etc. Some are likely to be deployed in delivering essential supplies to the most vulnerable (the 1.5m "shielded" citizens) until the supermarkets can build up a sustainable network of their own, but I think it's inevitable that some will need to adopt a policing role.

They're expecting a potential reduction of up to 40% of active police, either due to themselves or their families self-isolating, or suffering more severely from the disease. They'll no doubt currently be prepping "other enforcement authorities" to take up the extra slack.

It seems that we have passed a difficult stage here, but after nearly two months of fear, the future situation seems unclear. All schools  are still  closed and workers are gradually returning to their jobs.Masks and normal body temperature are necessary to enter each area. Of course, the identification used for tracking should not be forgotten. Some SAKs I bought from abroad have not been sent out or enter the customs, hoping to see them as soon as possible. I sincerely hope everyone here is healthy and happy.

Unfortunately there are those who just wont listen.  Our Mayor has now closed parks, beaches, and other city public gathering places.  The ( I can't say it in the open forum ) people of my city somehow are not taking this as serious as it should be.  Their discomfort and cabin fever has led them outdoors to gather.  I witnessed over 30 motorcyclists gathering in a parking lot just hanging out.

Locally we jumped from 22 to over 200 cases in a weeks time.  We also had our first reported death.

As of March 22, 2020, 2 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, there are a total of 1,733 positive cases and 27 deaths in California (including one non-California resident).

Ages of all confirmed positive cases:

Age 0-17: 25 cases

Age 18-49: 837 cases

Age 50-64: 442 cases

Age 65 and older: 415 cases

Unknown: 14 cases.

Protect yourselves and others please.

I saw a BBC broadcast out of northern Italy that told me all I ever needed to know about how serious this stuff is.  Unfortunately I have to go out and still interact with the public, but it's completely changed so many things I do.  Stay home and stay healthy mates!!

:iagree: You just have to look to Italy to see how serious this is. And here we talk about re-opening everything so the economy doesn‘t hurt too much. You think countries in Europe closed their factories and almost shut their economy down because they had nothing else to do??  :twak:

We are not on lockdown yet, but I expect we will be soon, because people don‘t listen. Schools are closed, Restaurants and public places are shut down, yet our neighbors are having a barbecue party. It‘s like a holiday because the kids are home. Let‘s invite some friends!
Stores are picked clean of masks and hand sanitizer, to a point that hospitals cannot get supplies they need. But I have yet to see someone wearing a darn mask. Everybody bought food in quantities that will last them for months, but I guess it is all to have a barbecue party.

Common sense has left the building...
