Finally got a Canadian Mark II Steel Helmet from WW 2.
on: November 21, 2019, 01:42:53 AM
I have long searched for a Canadian WW 2 Helmet, and oddly enough, this has proven to be somewhat difficult to acquire, but the hunt is now ended. I was told this one was issued to the local Algoma Steel during the war, which means this one has a strong local provenance. It is in great shape and looks good along with the US and German helmet, and a few more medieval ones. I have a Roman Helmet somewhere else as I do not have room for it up here. Yeah, I know, I will have to dust this area soon. I hadn't realized how dusty it was up there.

A little Leatherman information.

Wow, Chako, didn't know you collect Helmets too!  Ever tried using them on Halloween?  :pok: :SAKnight:

Thanks. Not sure why...but you literally trip on all the German helmets. Not as plentiful are the American ones. Harder yet is to find a Canadian one.

How is it different to the UK version? Is it just the place of manufacture or are there differences in the design?

Not sure if this helmet was made in the UK or in Canada. I do know that mine was issued to a local steel company sometime during the war.

With that said...Canadian helmets have slight differences to the inside head liner compared to the more common British ones.

A friend of mine is a WWI and WWII gear collector, he has a small museum at his home, filled with WWI and WWII stuff.

He also restores items he (or one of his friends) found with the metal detector.  Restores as in, cleans it up, and makes sure that it will not deteriorate more than it already has, so he does not fix holes or repaint the items.  He has a small YouTube channel about this, all videos come with english text (he does not speak in his videos  ;)).

I thought some of you might like to check it out, here are some of his videos:

Feel free to check out the rest of his channel as well, there are some great videos there, and I'm sure he will be happy with a bit of extra attention.  And he's a great guy, he already owned a Leatherman kick and Fuse, and I gave him a Victorinox Explorer once (trying to spread the SAK bug), and he already bought another one to use at work  :D.
