PSK help!
on: January 03, 2009, 06:23:06 AM
Hey guys, I am going to make a PSK.. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a BOB that is basically a survival kit in its own- but I want one that can fit in my pocket.. It cannot be an altoid tin either! I was thinking about an OtterBox or similar but I am stumped! Thanks

Mods- I posted this in the wrong damn section!  >:(

Nikko, I just tried the smallest Otter Box (1000 series) and it will fit in your pocket, but its a bit bulky. I use this model for all of my PSK's and they work great!  :tu:

I buy these in clear:

http://www.otterbox.com/waterproof-cases/otterbox-1000/

Int. 3.7" x 2.3" x 1.0"
Ext. 4.8" x 3.6" x 1.6"
Sometimes change is a good thing, other times not so much!

I use an Otterbox 1000 for a small FAK in my car.  It's a great sized box.

This is my last ideal for a PSK - Woodsmonkey - not really pocketable, it is designed to be kept in my hydration pack.

I just ordered some of these Swedish aluminum boxes - Sportsmans Guide - they look to be a more pocketable size.

I've tried using Otterboxes but don't really like the empty weight to volume ratio.

I started to make a small PSK a couple of weeks ago but kind of forgot about it. I am using a Altoids tin. This is what I have so far.

I still have lots of room left in there. Any suggestions on what else to add?

Is it overkill to put a extra knife and flashlight in a PSK if you already carry these on you at all times?

I wouldn't say so.. Just slip a Vic Cadet in there, they are ultra slim! Oh, and put a Inova Microlight ( available at Target for $7 ) or look into getting a Photon! Then you are good to go!

I would add something like a Leatherman squirt or micra. You would have the advantage of having scissors, which would be perfect for your PSK.  :tu:

Here is the flashlight in my PSK:

This thing is amazing! 10 lumens, weatherproof, LED, and only 1-1/2" long. $8  :tu:

*** This has the same output as my Arc-P *** Perfect for a PSK if you ask me.  :D

The Streamlight Nano light is fantastic! I bought one at the Bass Pro in Florida! Nevertheless, it hasn't left my keychain!
