Thanks for all the info fellas. Anyone have any experience with Acer computers ?

Long time ago with a notebook. Had it for all of 3 days before I got something else. Bad build, bad screen, bad keyboard. My impression was that they were very eager to cut corners while retaining marketable specs on paper - it was all there, but it was no good. And it was not a budget model.

They might have improved, they might have other good computers - but that is my only experience with them, and it will stay that way. Others milage will hopefully vary.

How about this HP with AMD Ryzen 5 instead of i5

https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/184782/HP-M01-F0016-Desktop-PC-AMD/

compared to

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/inspiron-desktop/spd/inspiron-3671-desktop/nd3671dxsjs

A lot better price point than the Dell. I've had fairly good luck with HP's in the past. I know it has less RAM and Memory but may be all I need.

Also not sure what the difference is between intel and AMD is. Is one better than the other ?

AMD is cheaper for the same performance (budget-friendly!) and has better integrated graphics.
Historically, intel was more stable. But I think that's not a concern anymore? Chako has an AMD PC. :)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

What do you think about that HP I linked to ?

Looks OK to my novice eye, you can add more RAM one day if you needed to and I would also add a HDD.
Do you (or will you) record music onto your computer?

I also just found this one, not sure why I didn't see it before on the Dell site, I think maybe because it's under business computers.

Windows 10 pro i5 with M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive

It's worth noting that non of the Dells you've listed have 802.11ac, aka 5 GHz WiFi connectivity.
The best they have is 802.11n, which is 2.4GHz WiFi (which is nothing to sneeze at, I admit).

The HP you linked does have 5GHz WiFi.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

That HP looks nice for the price. That last Dell looks good also.

The built in graphics is better on the AMD compared to Intel CPU.

Windows 10 Pro will have features you probably will never use. Nice to have I guess but not needed for most home users.

That M.2 NVME drive will be faster than the HP's SSD drive.

Both systems have pros and cons.

Thanks Chako, I don't think graphics will matter too much, again I don't play games so probably not a big deal.

I think I'll probably go for the Dell. I mean there isn't any down sides to having Win 10 pro is there ?

Also looks like the HP may not be available.  :(

You will find a lot of stuff you will never use. I would not select a computer based on that unless you are a business. Agreed, you will find no negatives with having the PRO over the home edition that I can think of.

What do you guys think of this one ?

https://www.microcenter.com/product/606981/hp-pavilion-desktop-computer?storeid=045

One advantage is it's available locally. I'm finding a lot of the computers I'm looking at are not available or in the case of Dell not available until mid to late June.

Likewise. All is well with the world...2x8 Gb RAM modules. Way to go. Hmmm...I think I may suffer from some OCD.

Yay, it has 5GHz WiFi. :2tu: and 512GB SSD.

First thing that might cause problems down the line is lack of storage space, but you can always buy more storage. :tu:

Just seeing this :ahhh Congrats on getting a new PC, Steve  I upgraded my older system last year instead of buying one and I am very happy with it now :dd: and SSD on your old system wpuld have bumped it up a lot but requires either cloning your OS or reinstalling it. These days you don't get cds with Win10 so I had to download it and create a USB installer (a bit more work than it really should be) but once installed it was like having a new computer :woohoo:

The nice thing about having a new PC though is just being able to unbox it and set it up, then you are off and running :like: :like:
