Strange behavior
on: May 12, 2020, 06:18:02 AM
Hello

I have this problem, I cant use any sak unless I have at least a one identical backup.
It gets even worse when that sak is a favourite.
What would you say for staching 9 pcs of the same knife.  :ahhh

In other areas of life that sort of behaviour might be considered slightly "odd", but here on MTo it would be thought just normal, if not downright prudent !!!   :pok:   ;)

I have many "multiples", so I won't be throwing any rocks from my glasshouse   :D

 :iagree:

I don't think you'll get too much grief here for having a backup, and a backup for the backup, and a backup for that, or a even "lifetime supply".  Likewise, many us might not consider it unusual to want a few users AND a few to collect, etc.

I feel better now.
Think I know where I will be heading soon. >:D

I should be more open:

4 red spartans
4 red tourists
2 black pioneers
2 silver classic alox
2 red climbers eco
3 red classics sd
2 red waiters

And others that I will be doubling, tripling...... or more

I like to be minimal on a pocket carry.
If I need more than the basics I will be using a full size tool.

Other symptoms you can relate to:
1. I cant stand it when someone has a sak and I know he/she is not using/carrying or even care.
2. Cant stand it when I see someoone abusing their sak. Using as a hammer, using an angle grinder to sharpen the edge, not maintaining/cleaning ...
3. I feel jealus when someone is not a knife guy and is in charge of a company promotion items and has a drawer full of saks.
4. I assume everybody should be crazy about saks.
5. I carry my sak even in my sleep.

I am in somewhat the same ,predicament for a different reason --- Namely -- once I love something, for what ever reason, it is no longer made. Now what? Hence, the "duplicate" SAKS. If I lose one, or worse trash one, then I have a spare and no biggie. But if I don't have one now what? Move on to something else I had rejected before and now my third or fourth choice is okay? Sorry. Have a spare on hand and never worry. Use your Swiss tools to the max and if something happens, it gets retired to the drawer, and a fresh one comes from the pile.

I get bent out of shape when people aren't crazy about SAKs like I am.  My friends that are into hiking, that leave their SAKs at home - worse still, don't know where they left them in their house.  The ones that go roaming around asking to borrow a small tool for a job that their SAK (that I know they have), can take care of....

I tend to duplicate in function rather than item, so if I lost my Deluxe Tinker for example, I could reach for the CT 34 instead. Likewise Traveler/Climber Small/Compact etc. I also don't mind splitting functions between pliers and knife, so if I'm carrying a Wenger Traveler, I'll carry something else with a Phillips on it.
