I agree with you, as I had the same predicament, a couple of months ago.
I planned to  buy a 50th year model. Instead found a drop point 112 in ebony.

It is my opinion that the 50th shield is for collectors more than users.

I  like the tang stamp confirming the 50th.  Better than the shield or the blade etching!

I like my knives to be tools, users carried with trust and pride.

I think I agree with you , I like the tang stamp better then the shield  :tu:

I'd much prefer the tang stamp over the shield. A shield on a 112 or 110 looks kinda awkward and out of place.

 :iagree: :hatsoff:

I recall a few years back, a local farm store had shelf’s of 50 th Buck 110s, w/Shields and blade etchings. For $20 each.  At end of the year, I thought they would be marked down more yet, nope, they were removed and suspect sent back to Buck.   Do wish I bought a few, as they would have been a good work tool at a exceptional value.
I underestimated the collectible pull of that offering.
Today, I believe more and more knife manufactures are marketing more toward collectors, and some offerings are just pretty but not functional as the classics.
I will continue to acquire knives, but will buy for function, steel, strength, and eye appeal in that order.

Buck and Case are tempting the collector, but many old designs are not going away.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Don’t get me wrong I would like one but I think Buck should have put maybe an S30v blade on the shield version to justify the extra expense and I think it would have made it more desirable

:iagree: :like: That is an excellent idea!!! :hatsoff:

Yet, as observed, Buck does not always think things through, case in point!  The May 2022 BOTM, used D2 steel, (May the 4th) release, charged $50 for than the standard version that is made with S35VN steel. Not thought that through.
(had to get that off my chest!!!)

It is a very nice 2 blade (flat grind) Stockman😃

Found on bay site, how much was the seller asking over introduction price.  Buck does limit to 3 iirc, but I think 2 should be the limit. Still buyers I suspect have multiple email accounts and as many ship to addresses.

When I saw the listing, I knew I had to have as no more than a week before I had comment that my 301 w/blades would pocket carry better with 2 blades.  The flat grind and blade notch and Micarta scales were a plus.

Where are these nicer material Bucks sold normally? I've never seen anything but the regular wood handles.

I won this one for a little over $104 shipped. I got three of these now. Only this one with the box. It'll stay in the collection. Got all of them under Bucks asking price. The last one I won for $61.    :D

Get on their e-mailing list for the BOTM knife. Copper and Clad has SFO's. Bucks Custom Shop. Are some of the places to check.

@David - You are a very patient person to locate such deals.

I have not the time or the skill to locate and then score a winning bid.

Thought I’d post a fixed blade Friday pic of a very special knife . It’s special for two reasons 1). It has an amazing story behind it and 2). It was a  gift from the amazingly generous Nix  :hatsoff:

So without further ado I give to you the Buck 245 ‘ Matt would go’ fixed blade

That is a well designed knife.  And, a very good story providing a pedigree that few blades can stand up with.
