Day 22
I also modified a Cricket sparker insert. The plug is just pressed in, and it had come off. So I crimped a hook screw into a ring, cut a little off the tip, cut the spring, and screwed it in the sparker. It started splitting as it is very thin plastic, but the screw holds tightly, it is much easier to grip, and it can be put on lanyards, zippers, keys etc.
If it looks like the plastic is going to keep splitting, you can try wrapping it with sewing thread, then soaking the thread with super glue. It works great, and is super inexpensive.

Those plier jaws and their hard-wire cutters are pretty impressive. Bending and cutting hook screws is definitely beyond my Camping Tool. That's usually more of a Leatherman or Swisstool sort of job.

I do not have a Gerber with a saw. The Roxon saw is good. Its spine is ground thinner than the teeth, but not as big a difference in thickness compared to a Leatherman saw's teeth and spine. Still, it locks firmly, the teeth are properly aggressive, it has a good length, and it just works.

Sounds good then; thanks! :tu: :hatsoff:

I may put some glue but the screw is fine in there.

Those hook screws are rather soft, and that one was tiny. I bet a Juice could do the job.

I got rid of all the split ends of the dowels I found the other day.

Sure, but a Coghlan's Camping Tool is no Juice. We'll call it a soft maybe.

It's nice to see a decent saw. The saw is another tool that's really easy to mess up.

I also took these apart. I am thinking they'll be good for a cash stash, or maybe bits or a tiny fishing kit.

Well, another week and this will be done.
I am at a wonderful stage, where the tool feels small and light. I do not notice the weight at all. And this thing is loaded with tools. And the Phillips is a star. It gets outshined by the monster scissors, but the Phillips is also pretty great. Rock solid, properly shaped, and it also takes the bit adapter. I love it! :like:

Hey! Hey, Roxon!

The 4mm bit fits perfectly in there. Of course it has no retention and can fall out at any moment, but it does not spin. And the handle is not perfectly straight like that, but there is something there.

It's just a thought. Major design changes would have to be made for something like that to work. Having the bit sit in a driver that pivots on a scissor blade that pivots on the other scissor blade which pivots on the handle is not an ideal screwdriver handle. But there is potential.

Replaced a zipper. Well, placed, not replaced. I  do not know where the original went.

And I needed a disposable cup for some impromptu plumbing.

You get Vanilla Coke there? They keep releasing it here every few years just so they can take it away.

On topic now! Zippers have the dubious distinction of being both a miracle of engineering and a supreme pain in the butt. Nice fix.

At this rate you won't be able to go back to other tools  :ahhh

Nice DIY ranger bands, how are they? I've wanted ranger bands before but never tried an innertube, any particular use in mind?

I am replacing all my rubber bands, because they deteriorate and start sticking onto stuff and make a mess, and they also snap easily. Ranger bands should last longer, and I can make them the width I want. They're nice for umbrellas, pens, zipties, small boxes, cloth bags, rolls of seatbelt webbing, all sorts of stuff.

Interesting, but I have two of these tools, and I believe if you put any pressure on that handle, it will twist and bend!   It reminds me of the SOG Reactor, where people would use the driver bit while it was in the holder, which was one of the handles of that tool, with bad results!

I'm not saying we could drive bits as it is, but looking at it, it reminded me of the CenterDrive. Roxon could experiment with a long bit driver. They're halfway there already.

Day 29

I prepared a jug for the bottle cutting jig.

It is fantastically strong, as it is thicker than the pepsi bottles. You do not need this to be 5mm wide. Even at 2mm it is stronger than 5mm pepsi ribbon.
Sadly it did not get cut in a single, long ribbon, like the pepsi and mountain dew bottles do. I might be able to do it if I am very careful when feeding the bottle to the jig. It is worth the extra time, since this is very strong. I'll cut a new, 2mm notch, and give it another go, slower.
The jugs are also larger than the 2lt pepsi bottle, and with 2mm ribbon, you could get an incredibly long, durable ribbon.

Nice home made jig! What kind of lashing do you use the plastic for?

Thanks!

I use it for the odd job around the house, like keeping balcony doors open, clothesline, lanyards. I even tied an awning bar in place.
The funnest thing was pulling up groceries from the balcony. With gloves.
I mainly made the cutting jig just to see if it would work, and because I had a lot of bottles around. And it works. Sure, I have enough paracord and bricklayer's line and many things in between, but why waste those, when you can use waste itself?

Day 30

I also made a funner out of the juice jug. I removed the foam part with the corkscrew, trimmed the edges with the scissors, and tried to poke the cap into a cone.

And since the cap was leaking from the sides, I cut the foam piece and put it back in. Back to watertight. Except for the hole.

 :like:
And there you have it. Not only did the Roxon Storm survive, it passed with flying colors. Everything on it works, and some tools are pretty amazing. The scissors always steal the show, and they got a ton of use. A tiny bit of hassle to open one handle to then get the scissors, compared to the Outu or Flagship tools, but still ok.
The Phillips is another great tool on this. Robust, locking, and it takes the bit kit. Awesome. A little short, but with the bit kit adapter, still excellent.
I also like the little blade. The tanto shape has grown on me even further.
Can opener, bottle opener, cord cutter, everything works. They even put a nice file in there. And I used everything, except the ruler and straight edge, and the flathead on the file. Even the corkscrew and glass breaker got some use. Pretty good.

I liked it already, before all the updates, but now I like it even more. I got used to the weight and stopped thinking "oh this is heavy" every time I picked  it up. Sure, it is a little heavy, tool and bit kit in the sheath, but I am ok with it.
Sure, the ergonomics are not superb, but I never felt too much discomfort. And build quality is rather high. Everything is still nice and tight, tools pivot smoothly and snap in place like the day I bought it. Nothing developed play, nothing deformed. Still going strong.

In conclusion, I would recommend this. The tool set covers many bases, it is made well, and it looks good.

Thanks for coming along for the ride, everyone! I've had so much fun using this for a month. :salute:
