Pioneer X 30 day challenge
on: June 02, 2020, 12:58:39 AM
Day 1

 :SAKnight: :SAKnight:

At the last moment, I decided to do this Challenge.  I just completed two Challenges back to back.  The best part of these is to do them along with you folks, so I do hope you'll join me, or at least follow along.  To be honest, I was going to wait until a few other people were interested in joining me.  But I ended up using my SAK just a few minutes ago, and I said to myself - "Self! there's no time like the present"  So here we are.

I decided to do this one because ... well...  I've pretty well convinced myself that I need scissors on my SAK in the last two months.  And also, I need something pocketable  So will the Pioneer X fill those requirements?

Let's wait and see!  :D

For today's usage:  I was warming up a microwavable pre-cooked packet of rice.  2/3 of the way into the time I saw the packet swelling up like a balloon and realized I had forgotten to tear a ventilation opening into the packet as the instructions say  :ahhh
I stopped the timer and reached in with my Pioneer X scissors extended at the ready.  Without touching the packet I snipped an opening in it and the steam escaped, narrowly averting a mishap in the kitchen.  :dwts:
I turned the timer back on, and completed  preparing my dinner.

Day 1
SAK scissors 1, Eminent disaster 0

I am in, so you got company

I always felt like the PX was too heavy with only one added tool compared to the Pioneer, but we‘ll see.
Here is the PX i will be carrying mostly. I might switch to my blue one every once in a while.

Day 1
A late package arrived. Thank you UPS driver  :salute:

Awl opened it, Blade prepared it for recycling and the scissors assisted taking off the tags of my new back pack. One occasion, three tools used. Not bad  :D

I'll join too if it's OK?  I only have one Pioneer X, I love it.  I've only just recently gotten into Alox.
My daughter got a late birthday present tonight, I used the awl on the UPS package and the lego packages.

That's a good looking PX SirVL!  I love the PX - but I like the idea of the farmer even better.  I'm holding out for a blue one though.

I am still hesitant getting one. Guess I will have to see one in person to make up my mind  :dunno: And of course it‘s got to be not silver  :D

Day 2

I'm so glad to have company!!

thank you all for following along and joining if you can.

Today's use - awl to open a box of foodstuffs in the kitchen.  maybe a snack of cheese and crackers later.

Has anyone used their engraving plate for its intended purpose?

This was a major reason why I decided to do the challenge at this time.  The PioneerX is remarkably heavy for the addition of just one layer.  I'm hoping to get used to the extra weight.  I've noticed that if I clip it to the inner edge of my pocket, rather than the outer, it becomes less noticeable  Though I wonder if it will stay put that way.

Thanks for joining!

quick tip though - just number the day of the challenge at the top of your post, Day1, Day2. etc etc

To anyone who has hosted a challenge... should I keep a spreadsheet of the participants and their daily posts?

I was hemming and hawing, I admit.  But post #1 is a true story, and it compelled me to go ahead with the challenge.  A quick snip to relieve pressure on the impending ... what we call in the business... Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion ...
The SAK saved the day.   :D

And I says to myself, Self! (and I knew it was me 'cause I recognized my voice and I was wearing my underwear) we can save the day and dinner!
I should own a PX. That is the first Alox I ordered but I canceled in favor of the Electrician which I gifted because I wanted the can opener so I bought the Soldier then doubled up with an SI incase I lost it.

Whenever I read what you write I feel like I'm talking to myself.  It's very strange.

Or maybe you are actually me.  Are you sure that's your underwear?
