Leatherman Collection.
on: July 09, 2020, 02:24:03 PM
It has been some time since I posted part of the collection, specifically that of Leatherman. Now that I am using Flicker, you can now zoom in and take a closer look than ever before.

Back in 2009/10, there was a guy in Michigan who was hydro dipping all sorts of Leatherman tools and selling them off of eBay. I was his biggest customer at the time, and the camo Mini is one of them.

I would also like to say that I was also a big adopter of Texas Tool Crafter modified Leathermans when they first came out. That was before they were forced to put labels on their modified tools, and way before Leatherman sued them out of existence. I notice that Leatherman now does the same as Texas Tool Crafter offering the same service or something like it on their web site.

I have some of my users buried in the second last photo under the Leatherman banner. If I was to use a tool, I would buy another non-user for the collection.

genevabuck, no. It is a Texas Tool Crafter gold plated Rebar.

The collection has been on hiatus for a few years now...and the Leatherman section is but a part of it. I ran out of room for the most part, and I no longer troll eBay.

Are you going to carry on collecting LM Dan? I’m referring to the recent releases specifically the Free series.
Personally I have zero interest in ANY of the latest LM’s (or sogs, vic’s) but I have to admit a few gerbers have recently turned my head
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

Not sure Tosh. I was and still am disappointed with Leatherman. There was a paradigm shift for a while where they didn't want to sell their products to anyone other than an American. I was for quite some time, able to buy things in the US and have them shipped over here. Then all of a sudden, places that would sell to me told me they couldn't because if Leatherman found out, there would be repercussions. I was forced to come to terms that Leatherman had little interest in the Canadian market, let alone an avid collector. I even called Leatherman on the phone a few times and was roadblocked nicely in my inquiries. They just didn't care. I see now they do offer some models for the Canadian market, but not the good ones that a collector would be interested in. I figured if they didn't want to sell to me, I maybe didn't want to buy anymore. I do not have any of the Free models simply because I haven't been able to source them locally, and the few I can get off of Amazon.ca are super expensive. Frankly, the Canadian market is small compared to that of the US when you consider the whole population of Canada is smaller than that of the State of California alone. Even so, not sure why Leatherman told their sellers not to sell to those pesky foreigners. If they had that policy up when I first started collecting, I would hardly have as many as I do have now.

Either way, I still think I have a nice Leatherman collection  even if missing the newer models.

Thank you McStitchy, I like that one as well.  :hatsoff:

You have a amazing collection Dan, quite possibly the envy of all MT’o members. I’m pretty certain that members in the US would be more than happy to help you source specific items.
Apart from a black surge with cap crimper and a camo blast I actually desire no other leatherman. Perfectly content with the few I have. My first love was the wenger rangers (as you know) and I have a fair few of those. The few that I don’t have, I accept I now never will. But I’m fine with that. (I’m glad to be rid of the addiction tbh)

It is ok. If I come across one I don't have, I may add it to the collection. I am no longer actively hunting them down. Now into other things like 3D printing.  :D

What's the story on the camo Minitool ?

I used Gorilla Camo tape on the Mini-tool to cover the handles and trimmed off the excess length with a razor blade and also did the same to a Rebar and Wave few months ago. They came out pretty cool for display and for pictures ;)

Unfortunately I didn't take or posted any pictures, because it was a fake Camo, done just for fun, and instead I continue carrying and using it until the tape started to peel off. I will do another one some day so you can see it looks authentic. Well, as long you keep it in the drawers :D

This is funny. I was storing away the P4 box after placing the tool in its storage tray, when I decided to take a closer look at my users which I store in their sheaths. I pulled out my knifeless Fuse, a Wave, and a Core with flash light. I checked a few other empty sheaths and found one that appears to contain another one. I dug it out and it turns out to be a Charge AL.

How the heck had I forgotten about this one I will never know. I remember buying it used from the local pawn shop 5 years ago...stored away...and forgotten. I think this is a sign of maybe having too much.

Figured I would take some quick photos of my Leatherman rotation. These are my duplicate users...my go to models I wear depending on the need.

1. Knifeless Fuse. My constant companion for many years...that is until I found out they no longer make it. Retired but ready for use in a pinch.

IMG_8991A by Chako, on Flickr

2. Wave. Probably the one I tend to wear if and when I need to wear one. I just love the Wave in general.

IMG_8993A by Chako, on Flickr

3. My combo sheath, a Core along with a Monarch 300 flashlight.

IMG_8996A by Chako, on Flickr

4. The forgotten Charge AL. I will be wearing this one tomorrow.
