84mm and 91mm compatability
on: July 26, 2020, 10:34:11 AM
Anyone know if the springs in an 84mm knife will work with the blades from a 91mm (if they are suitably shortened) without any modification to the tang end and if they are still 2.4mm thick?

May sound a strange question but I have a couple of broken 91mm blades (main and small) I’d like to reshape and build back into a walker or ‘my first’ frame perhaps.

Diameter of brass pivot for blade is 2.2 mm on 84mm sak,and 2.5 mm on 91mm models. So you need to make a some bush or drilled bigger hole for use 2.5 pin with blade from 91mm model.

What 91mm tools did you want to put on an 84?  Different tools require different springs.  I don’t know if the pin size is going to matter to much considering Vic uses a 93mm e-blade with the 3mm hole on the 91mm and 84mm models.

I've used the nail file from a 84mm knife on a 91mm backspring with no issues, so for the small blade at least there should be no problem.

It’s the main and small blades. Bother are much shorter than original where I have ground new blade shapes out of the broken ones. The main blade is 2.4mm wide old one. I was thinking of putting them in the back layer and making a stockman ‘victoristock’ type affair...but with a saw in between the blades!  :twak:
