What was the phrase? I am limited by the technology of my time - Howard Stark. I was in love with Evil’s super Skeletool from way back in the day, to which at the time was magic to me. Now, with technology and time...I am ready to take on the project again (at least the hammer/pry tip portion.

I’ve been carrying the Skele exclusively for the last year and a bit so I have been itching to get back on the horse for modding.

I have only printed it in plastic to get the fit right and I have sent the part off to get printed in steel. If things work out like I’ve designed, there should be two hammer faces, a 90 degree 1/4” driver adaptor, a spot for in-line Leatherman flat 2.5D flat bits and a nice healthy pry tip. 

The drop in hamma-jamma is attached with a M2 6mm long brass standoff and 2x M2 3mm button head screws. No modding of the tool itself, so it is completely reversible and removable.

Btw, why printed in steel? Do you mean CNC milled? If not, why not? Wouldn't it be stronger that way. I'm not in the loop as far as 3d printing goes, didn't even know that metal printing was a thing, so I don't know how strong it might be. But considering the stress and forces a hammer or pry tool has to endure, I'd rather go with something more solid than melted powdered steel. :shrug:

For one, it's cost, CNC is very costly and time consuming. Not to mention, I would have to find someone to do it.


Powdered steel, when treated in the way they do it (infused with bronze) is extremely strong. Way stronger than this little prybar and hammer can endure. Crucible Metalurgy in the USA uses powdered steel for their 154CM & M390. These steels are heat treated to be become super steels, but the idea is still the same, laser or heat sintered. I am certain this will be fine for the purpose, if anything I am worried a tiny but about the sheet steel frame but there is contact along the bottom edge, and the shaft of the hammer insert goes all the way up into the handle and butts up against the plier springs, lots of support.

I figured it was probably cost related, and probably not so viable on a one of small scale. I have a few friends who do CNC but never inquired on how the prices are for such small projects.

BTW, as far as I know Bob/Syph007 has a CNC mill he uses to make parts and scales for SAK mods and he's in Canada, so maybe he could help you out, MTO modder to MTO modder. I don't know if he has the required tooling for such a project though.

Yup, I know about the powdered super steels in knife metallurgy, but they have to endure different kinds of stress than a hammer or pry bar, cutting and batoning isn't the same as hammering and prying. But I know and trust you did the research and math on what is best for your project. And I mostly ask to put my mind at ease and to hear more details on this cool mod. :tu:

And yes, the frame might be the weak spot, but I also believe the addition of the hammer head will give it additional stiffness and strength it requires. :hatsoff:

Yes another fan here in awe of Evil's amazing Skele mod

This looks pretty amazing too

One question though - Why put a hole in the hammer head?-
When you already have the regular LM bit driver on the Skele and the 1/4' bit driver hole in the hammer that will also take the flat bits.
Yes it's a good position for it ergonomically - But won't it seriously affect the use of the hammer eg for hammering in a nail!

Only time will tell if that will be an issue. Lots of surface for driving nails and the other smaller hammer face is available. I am not driving in giant framing nails, maybe 2" skinny ones. If nothing, its more of a "convincer" for things to fall into place. :D
