Actually, it's not really off topic. And it's not rocket science. If you want to make products that sell, listen to the people you sell those products to. Not focus groups, and not influencers on social media who will do and say anything to get free products.

For example, I have been one of the more vocal ones here saying as early as when I joined here more than six years ago (as the first real multitool I bought was a $20 used PST II that year)  "Leatherman ought to bring back the PST". When the Heritage PST came out a few years back, I then said "a PST that is close to the PST's MSRP not a pricey collector's item".  Well, they pretty much did in the form of the Bond, allowing it to use Rebar and last-gen Wave components, as well as a new handle with improved ergonomics. From the sounds of things, it is a very popular model that was well received.   Leatherman decided to "reinvent the wheel" with the Free series, only to be met with a lukewarm reception from those who actually use their tools. No one wanted a bulky, expensive tool with light-duty innards.

And I eagerly await the Curl; as it will be perfect for what will likely be my first job (in towing and recovery--divided up between office, shop, and actual recovery work).

I would say the people on MTO would make up a very small percentage of their market.

The way some members rant about Leatherman, I understand them not wanting to maintain a visible presence here.
They are a successful company and know better how to run it than anyone on here, even though we may disagree with their direction at times.

Maybe it will be a remake of the Leap with Sidekick pliers or something.

I thought it was a new Leatherman aimed at sailors, but with a really poorly-thought-out name. "Don't go to sea without a Leak in your boat!"
Current SAKs: Explorer, SwissChamp, Handyman (modded), Climber, Super Tinker, Tinker, Woodsman (modded), Electrician, Pioneer, SwissTool, Executive, Ambassador, Champion Plus
Current Leatherman tools: PST, Original Wave, Wave, Wave+, Blast, Bond, Curl, Style PS, Micra

I figured that...but since I am the most vocal about my dealings with Leatherman...if the shoe fits...so I took it as I shouldn't be whining about Leatherman as much. I didn't take it badly.  :D

I know you have genuine trouble getting certain models in Canada.

I just imagine if I owned or worked for a company and every time I went to a certain place people kept telling me everything we were doing wrong (in their eyes).
I guess you could say some of them are just very passionate about such brands and want them to do well.

That is a good point. If I was not a collector, there would be nothing to complain about. I am in that less than a minority group. I do promise to keep my venting more to myself in the future though.  ;)

Went to Fleet Farm today with intention of getting a ratchet extension, they were out of stock but they did have 2 Curls on the shelf, marked at $79.99. So that looks like the price, at least here in the US.

Yeah, I saw it on line at https://www.highlandershop.com/products/leatherman-curl-multifunction-tool-with-sheath-sku-832930

It does look like it’s going to be $79.95 in the US.

What price would be both acceptable and feasible? Looking ath the Leatherman site and US Amazon the Wave retails at $99, you're basically saving $20 by forgoing the serrated blade and saw, that sounds like a good deal. Am I completely off base here somehow?

And to those that may answer try and remove yourselves from second hand and sale prices on the Wave, since that doesn't seem like a good point of comaprison  :dunno:

I believe you are correct. I shall remain more silent on matters around here.

Mate, you got me wrong, I meant that even if Leatherman think we're a bunch of idiots who can't make our minds up or appreciate their genius, it would have been cleverer for them not to say so publicly to a big fan base. Apologies that you took my comment to mean you!

Ah, that's where the internet lets us down, if I said it to you in person it would readily be apparent that I'm not a sage!  Something about the unibrow, blank stare, monosyllabic grunts and knuckles dragging on the pavement.

It is not paranoia...just trying to be Canadian nice.

Pomsbz, surely it can't be all that bad...you did not mention a 1 inch thick hair suit on the torso.

No, I have no issues with anyone and consider everyone on MT.O as a friend.  :drink:

No, absolutely not! That would be a real shame. Sorry, but what's the point in having a community like this if you aren't free to criticise or praise when you have a good reason to do so... or words to that affect, you know what I mean. Besides, everybody likes loves a good rant!

I don’t know but for me, I’d most likely pay the extra $20 and get the Wave because there just isn’t enough of a difference between the Curl versus the Wave to differentiate them for the $ saved.  Maybe that’s Leathermans plan…to improve Wave sales by offering the Curl
