Driver Size for Vic Scissors?
on: December 23, 2020, 03:16:43 PM
Does anyone know what the corresponding driver size is for the screw on mid 70s, Victorinox 91mm scissors? Would perhaps the flathead driver on the 58mms do the trick? Thanks all.

No, that'll be way too big.
It's probably no more than 2mm in width.

If you have one of the Victorinox mini screwdrivers that stores in the corkscrew, it fits the slot in the screw in the scissors. It is not as wide, but it should work alright if you seat  it snugly and turn slowly.

Hm, okay so I'll steer clear of that option.

I do but I haven't had luck thus far, the width seems too thin to actually turn the screw.

I've never had luck adjusting this screw.  Tried on several sets of scissors from 84 and 91 mm SAKs but it's not like there's a lot of thread there.

I've ever needed to adjust a Vic scissor screw but I have a used Wenger whose scissors came with such a loose screw that they didn't work, one side always coming off the spring. I tried to tighten it with a jeweller's SD that was a perfect fit and couldn't get it to budge. However, I was able to tighten it with a Vic can opener tip filed to shape. Even then it took a mighty effort to turn the screw, with some small damage made to the slot. The scissors worked perfectly after, but given how hard the screw was to tighten, and that I saw no evidence of tampering, how the screw got so loose is a mystery!

This doesn't bode well. I'll give it a shot but we'll see what happens. :-\

Provided it isn't stuck you can carefully turn the screw with the tip of the tweezers.

Hey Rit-

The best SAK driver for Vic scissors are on the Wengers, like this PTC (Pocket Tool Chest) combo tool. Perfect fit for the older ‘small’ screws up to c.’76 or so.

I’m a Victorinox fan, but the PTCs are great too.

I was actually looking at getting one of those! Now I have the incentive I need to pull the trigger. Thanks, helpful as usual Kama. I'll also have some neat stuff to show here soon  ;). Out of town right now so...

Tried this, I'm gonna need a bit more torque it seems.
