One step further to my optimal SAK (Alox OH mod)
on: January 11, 2021, 04:57:48 PM
Finally I had some time to modify my new EDC SAK.
This time I wanted to mod a rancher where the small blade can be easily one hand opened.
And I wanted to sink the closed tools between the scales as much as possible.
The thumb pins were not allowed to stick out either! This is really important to me and one reason why I like the Alox models so much;
Nothing stands out; no back tools that stick out uncomfortably in hand and pocket. Nothing disturb the simple, elegant shape.

My tooling equipment and my manual skills are quite limited, but the result is not that bad. I know the finish is poor but hey, it's a user!
The lower resting tools make a big difference in the hand. From now on I will always adapt it that way and the one hand opening works really well!
I've been using the knife for a few days now and I'm very happy with it!

Nice. Why two thumbstuds on the small blade?  Dremels rule - I can't do much small work without it.

Looks pretty good to me! The peening is nice too - I’m sure I’d batter the heck out of the scales if I tried it.... :like: :like:

Thank you guys!  :cheers:

@Rich: The first pin was too close to the axis, and with 4mm so small that after a few attempts the thumb hurt. A bigger pin is not an option for me, so a second one.

@Rizio: peening is pretty easy with a little practice. My biggest problem was drilling the hardened blade with a dremel.
