Victorinox 100mm Blades on 91mm Build
on: October 14, 2019, 05:09:26 PM
I tried searching this topic a few different ways, and found nothing.

Has anyone used blades from 100mm floral/pruning knives on 91mm builds?

There are a lot of these available on eBay so it seems like this would be a cheap way to get pruner and Warnclif blades.

Thank you for any info on the subject.

I had none apart, but from what I remender, the blades are thicker than 91 mm blades. Maybe the 93 mm platform would be the better choice to implement those blades into?

Thanks for the info.

I just received a 100mm floral knife yesterday.  I will likely disassemble it this weekend and gauge it with the calipers.  This may be just the push I needed to enter the world of ALOX mods  :D

I disassembled the floral knife last night.  The tang is .080" just like the new large blade tang.  The blade is not, however ground so that it sits at an angle to accommodate the small blade or combo tool,  like the large blade.

The pin diameter on the 100mm knives is quite large.  I forgot to measure last night.  I will have to check it an update this post.

I will be using the floral blade on a future 91mm build.  I will need to fill in the tang with a brass rod a la SYPH and I will install only the tang from a small blade as a spacer on the opposite end.

More to follow.

I have not gotten any further with the mod, but I wanted to post the pin diameter on the 100mm tools.  The hole in the tang measures 0.142", so my best guess is that the pins are 3.5mm which would equate to about 0.138".  Possible brass pin stock to fill in the hole for re-drilling and using on a 91mm build would be either 3.5mm or 9/64" (if that is available).

I'll ask a follow up question. Does anyone know how well a 100 mm blade would fit in a 111 mm knife? I'd specifically want a pruning blade opposite a cap lifter (or possibly combo-tool)

A quick check with a 100 mm that I can't disassemble (it would look bad to take apart the Christmas gift I gave my wife...) makes it look like the blade is 0.1 mm thinner than the can opener but would be a bit too long to fit opposite a locking cap lifter. That leaves a non-locking cap lifter or a combo-tool I presume (possibly a 93 mm cap lifter?)

Has anyone tried anything similar? Results? Does anyone own a 111 mm model with non-locking cap lifter and a 100 mm pruning blade and could just do a quick visual comparison to see if there is any chance it would fit?

Thanks for the link! 4 mm is a bit of a pain but your solution seems fairly straightforward, it sure looks good on your knife. Now I just need a cap lifter to put opposite the pruning blade, that would be easy if it wasn't for the fact that I'd prefer a 93 mm one to avoid having to drill it out. Oh, and the pruning blade of course... But that's just a question of throwing money at the problem.

Then I can have my Gatherer.

you need to use a thin washer as the spring is wider, I ground mine down on an oil stone, why, I'm just mad and have too much time on my hands, also bent the spring a little to get lower in the handle when close and cut a notch out, with a sheep foot blade or what other blade your using as there are 5 or more in that range.
May do a multi blade 100mm if i can find them all cheap enough
all the best
