All good and valid points from a practical perspective.

But collecting is hardly about practical and economica -- if it were, I'd probably just have 2 or 3 SAKs and that'd be the end of it.  :D

Not much different than paying extra for a specific Alox color, or getting discontinued models. The PS is certainly quite unique as an offering from Victorinox, and like so many other special versions of things, it's a premium cost. Makes a nice addition to a collection or a nice gift!

Fair enough.  I just sort of transferred the popularity of black oxide finishes on Leatherman and Gerber to the PS, but I agree that Vic fans are used to different colors and editions... so the interest, or lack thereof shouldn't be surprising.

But that's exactly the point for me... I don't collect. Have no interest in it, never had.
I'm a user (and aficionado, of course), so the idea of paying a huge premium for anything other than sheer looks or collectability is  totally foreign to me.

The point of having several models is having several toolset's to use in different scenarios and the duplicates (or triplicates) are mere backups.
You can say i'm extremely practical in that regard

Nothing wrong with that. I was even reasonable and practical myself, once upon a time.

Sometimes being reasonable is no fun.  I don't collect either..... so I've accumulated an absurd number of "backups" .... for - just in case...  I'd venture to guess that I have never gone to a backup in my entire life.  I have replaced - Supertool to a Wave... Buck to a SAK.... but I've never needed to bring one of my stunt doubles into the mix.

That's the reason why i'm seriously considering selling about half of my cellidor stock. It's a bit over the top as it is, and just a waste of money gathering dust in a drawer that i'll probably never need to use/need.

Thought two were the same (just different condition)   Never put the two side by side, but when I used the nice/mint one for my avatar...noticed the old one had a Vic shield and none on this knife.

Same, but not.  :(

EDIT: The nicer no shield one is ‘80 and the other is ‘81/‘82.

I could easily see myself getting sucked down the collector rabbit hole but in reality I would just like to get a backup to my Tinker and Rambler, an Alox Pioneer, and a Swiss Champ.  I suppose that is how it starts though and then downhill from there  :D

That’s just ONE of the slippery slopes.

Backup copy for a user?
Check.
Cleaner copy for display?
Check.
User copy because too cool to use your only one?
Check.
Same date/era copy for a sentimental reason?
Check.
Minor difference copy of certain model?
Check.
Different scales?
Check.
Spare parts or mod fodder?
Check.
Out of production or Limited Edition hoarding?
Check.
All the alox colors?
Uh, not there yet.
Found it for cheap?
Check.
For future value?
Check.
Hoffritz models?
Check.
Backups for backups?
Check. CHECK!

Dare I go on?

For pocket carry, anything larger than a Camper and I feel I may as well have the entire animal and carry the Swisschamp instead! I always have a SC close at hand anyway.

I have several of each BTW. Backups for the Camper and SCs in various locations for ready use.

Because this one is 1973

 ;)

Got this Craftsman 136ka to use, while not pulling one from the collection. Took a lot to clean it up for EDC rotation. Toughest part was reducing the scale gaps on the T&T ends. At least enough so that it wouldn’t bother me to use it without snagging stuff all the time. The scissor spring is a broken ‘70-‘73 double leaf modded to function as a single leaf. Wasn’t gonna put a period correct functional double leaf in a user.
