Lucerne Lion SAK ?

Did either Vic or Wenger do a SAK with the Lucerne Lion stone statue as an inlay?

I'm not sure if you mean this, as it's not an inlay per se, but it's a Victorinox with the Lucerne Lion.

Thanks for the link, I just ordered a stainless steel one from a different source. Do you/anyone know when it was made and/or what series?

Just a wonderful memory of our stay in Lucerne several years ago.
Thanks

There seems to have been a series of SAKs of this type for various places/events. This series has VERY three dimensional and detailed scales unlike any other SAK I've seen. I've not found them on any SAK site, only 3rd party vendors. Couldn't find them on SAKWiki either (maybe not looking in right place). It is a beautiful series of SAKs.

Rich

EDIT: pics of some others in series: seems to be at least a dozen in the series (all Spartans).

Thanks for the Edisona and SAKWIKI links.I'd never have found them.   :hatsoff: Good to know who made this series. Beautiful craftsmanship. When were these done? Commissioned by VIC or someone or just made by Edisona as a business? Still beautiful SAKs regardless.

Shouldn't Edisona get a scale changer and modding merit badge?

Thanks again

For profit? Did you see that price CHF49, that is like $55, not all that expensive.
They are still widely available, so I wonder if they are still being made.
E.g. Heidi Shop has 2 models in their store, although the discount suggests that they are clearing out old storage, so maybe they are no longer in production.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Yes thats true. Most of them are from the Company Feist & Co (Lunawerk, Solingen). There were some swiss knifemakers that did such souvenir knives too (like Wenger, Kienast, etc.). But I think most of the time it was a cooperation between different companies; Huguenin for the scales, Wenger/Victorinox for the tools (as an example).

Also from the model above (bimetal scaled lion), the scales were produced from a different company, had nothing to do with victorinox. Victorinox just allowed that company to produced those knives. The distribution never went directly over victorinox. It was/is a one person company (very small) that produces the scales and that person (or a relative) went to all the souvenir shops around to convince them to take those knives into their shops.

The Luzern Lion I started the thread with is a Victorinox. Scales made by ????  A beautiful and artful SAK. Found a quote from Mark Twain about the sculpture:
"the saddest and most moving piece of stone in the world"  - I can totally agree, sat there looking at it with tears running down. I really love this knife regardless of its pedigree.

Jnoxyd

Thanks, I saw that post and scales. I appreciate the info. I know several German companies did knives with the Luzern lion as early as the 1900's.  I wanted a Swiss made one. I don't care if this knife was a collaboration or not. For me this was a sentimental buy, not a collection piece (now about 70 some). Anyone who has been there and moved by the sculpture will understand.

You are right! Great sculpture and very sad story behind it... But Edisona/Victorinox knife is really nice and I'd like to have it in my SAK collection.

Very famous monument.

"The lion monument is located in the center of Lucerne and, in the allegory of a dying lion, commemorates the Swiss guards who died on August 10, 1792 during the Tuileries storm in Paris. The inauguration of the monument, about ten by six meters in size, carved out of a sandstone rock, took place on the anniversary of 1821. It is one of the most famous monuments in Switzerland and is visited by around 1.4 million tourists every year. In 2006 it was placed under Swiss monument protection." (wikipedia)

For the swiss people, its a place you usually dont visit and you try to avoid that place. Beside the corona time, the place is crowded with asian tourists...

I read the story of the lion on wikipedia, then found the brochure we got while there.
I found my lion knife on Etsy. Amazing number of SAKs on that site. The seller, VictoBlades, still has one or two left and others of the series. Great service - from Canada to central Virginia in three days! I can't get mail across town in that time.

Yes, it's very sad story of this monument and I understand you don't like this place. What is the most lovely place for Swiss people?

Sort of reminds me of Mt Pilatus outside Luzern. Beautiful area. We took the cog wheel train to the top area and walked to the top (ca 7000 ft); could hardly breath up there. Later in week did paddle boating on Lake Luzern.  If I had to choose a place to live in Europe, it would be Luzern.  I could get to Ibach easily, spend too much money at Victorinox, then couldn't afford to live in or around Luzern.  ;)
