So I was at REI
on: March 13, 2009, 04:56:29 AM
I was at REI yesterday, and they have the Splice and Vice, in black, stocked on their shelves. I was considering buying either one, but $17 was enough to make me reconsider the impulse purchase. Gents, I have just been plain spoiled by my Leatherman S4 and P4, here's why:

The Splice and Vise just look, well, cheap. The bottle opener did not look confidence inspiring. Sure, the Squirt opener is small, but the ones on the Gerbers just look weak to me. Maybe its the bead blasted finish, maybe its the VERY rounded edges, or just knowing that these two new keychain tools came from the same place as the Suspension, I just couldn't do it.

The Vise specifically scared me. Those jaws are THIN. Like hemostat thin. Or thinner. And the wire cutter section is TINY. I doubt I could cut much of anything with it, let alone some 18 gauge wire. I think only the SAK pliers have a smaller cutter, and at least that is well formed.

I  still want to pick up a funky green Splice some day, as I like the color (yes, I do), the serrated blade intrigues me and because I feel I can't properly judge this tool till I handle one. Still, it's low on the list, as I"ll likely get a Curve first.

So, instead of spending my money on a Splice, I went over to Target and got a down right sexy green alox Cadet.

That can happen very easily.   My little Squirts get carried more than my big MTs.   The E4 is my favorite tiny MT.

Good choice!   I got one of those from Target too.  Isn't that Hunter Green pretty?   Is that color exclusive to Target?
It is quite different from the olive drab green that came out before.

I think that green is indeed an exclusive, and it really is purdy.

I couldn't tell the difference at first glance, but now that I've stared at it the right one is a lighter shade of green.
