Decisions, decisions
on: July 16, 2021, 06:36:22 PM
So, long story short. I have £200 of Amazon (UK Only) Vouchers to spend  :D

Do I get;

A) A new Surge to replace my aging OG one?

B) A Charge+ (seen a nice one but currently out of stock  >:( )

C) Free P4 (always wanted one but not sure what with the mixed reviews  )

Thoughts... :dunno: :ahhh

You said you have OG Surge but do you have a Wave/Charge ?
I have a second gen Wave and an OG Surge so if I were you I'd get the P4. Yes, there is the problem with the plier head binding which seems annoying, at least. But I don't use my multitools for lengthy jobs so I figure that wouldn't be a problem.

A or B :D

C is fine but I would personally go with my above answer  ;)

I have an OG Surge (which is used for work) If I got the "new Surge" it would replace that, surreptitiously
I have had both a Wave and a Charge (both given away  :twak: :ahhh ) I don't need to replace the Surge as I could ask for a work issued Gerber, or use my old issued Pro Scout  ;)

The Charge I have seen is this one

Well do you want the new tool for work? Or it’s more for the fun of it ? Does your work require a heavy duty MT and would the work issued one …. work well ?
Those questions should help narrow the decision but given that you don’t have Wave/Charge I’d get the Charge. If the one with the camo is unavailable any Charge or Wave would do. Of all my multitools I find the Wave most versatile, mainly because of the clip and the one hand accessible knives. And my Wave is so well worked in that it opens like those P-series in the videos  :D

I am just shocked that you work in a place that will provide you with a multi-tool. That is rare in itself.   :tu:

I hesitate to offer suggestions. I am sure you will be happy with your decision.

Charge gets another vote from me.  :salute: You won't be disappointed.

I would try the P4 or something else that's different from your usual Leatherman like a MUT, Signal or OHT.
Or a Crunch.

They do if you know who to talk to (I do) I work for Border Force (Customs) and we need to cut quite a bit of stuff.

They usually just issue a lock knife but I often need a serrated blade as well to cut strapping etc.

Also, the pliers mean I don't have to go to the tool room and get a bolt cropper to open some of the "cheaper" padlocks (if I can't pick them, that is  )

I already have a couple; an OG Swisstool and a B/O MXBS  :tu:

If they made the MXBS the same size as a Surge I'd use that for work (on the QT as it wouldn't be official issue)

The Swisstool is nice but I prefer OHO for work as I often only have one hand free  ::)

It comes down to either a replacement work LM or a "personal use" one

MUT: A bit too specialized for work and I have no need for the other tools as I "don't got no gun"

Signal: On my list but for work I need more than a combo blade (& I don't need a whistle & ability to start a fire)

Crunch: I recently got one and, although nice, it's too cumbersome for regular use (it stays in my bike toolkit)

OHT: I have one of these and just can't get on with it (blades too short) I'm using it in the Daredevil Challenge  ::)

P4: Mixed reviews

If it's for work then it MUST be heavy duty, OHO and have decent sized scissors (Surge then  )

I have work issued Gerber Pro Scout but it's not OHO (hence the Surge  ::) )

I found the Wave too small for work, likewise the Charge so they would be for personal use

Right then, I've given in and ordered the Charge + (Forest Camo)

It's currently out of stock so I can always cancel if it's taking too long  :wait:

Also, I have a birthday coming up so could get the B/O Surge then

OHT: I have one of these and just can't get on with it (blades too short) I'm using it in the Daredevil Challenge  ::)
I only find the saw to be too short, the blades are OK at that length for me.
We all have different needs though and you probably have bigger stuff to cut and more often than me.

Sorry, I thought I'd posted a link with a pic' earlier

Here's what I have on order, from Amazon, not Heinnie (unless it takes too long  :wait: )

https://heinnie.com/leatherman-charge-forest-camo?gclid=CjwKCAjwos-HBhB3EiwAe4xM95n00JvAvkUvWRev0l6uJ_UrLCVxQj2j8_lPXxbLjklY_Ml8u05WIhoCQG4QAvD_BwE

If it does take too long it'll be the B/O Surge and we all know what that looks like  :tu:

I still say take a look at the Roxon Phantom SurgeUK. Lots of blade choices...including no blade if need be. Fantastic scissors, etc.  :pok:

I did have a look and it looks ok, just ok. A bit like buying a Chinese bike over a Jap' bike (Cheap :dunno: )

If the video & pics are anything to go by it looks very fat (not heavy) just fat, with the handles being too bulky

I might get one at some point but compared to LM
