European Juice blade length
on: October 22, 2021, 11:33:47 PM
So I need a little guidance, I bought the gray gen2 XE6 from someone in Germany and the blade is distinctly shorter,
It does not fill the space in the handle and the blades look ground off but they are finished in such a way it does not appear to be done post factory.
Were all the gen2 xe6's this way or is this a european thing? When i measure the blades they appear to be 50mm long (2") is there a law about being under 2"?

All newer Juices with the two colour handles sport shorter knife blades.
A little Leatherman information.

I wonder if it was to get them under 2.5 inches. Some US cities have a 2.5 inch legal limit.

OK, I know you have an exhaustive collection, so your gen 2 juices are all 50mm blade length?

I’m certainly not Chaka, but I have several Gen 2 and all of mine have the shorter blade length and slightly different shape from the original.

What Chako said  all of the Gen 2s had shorter blades and I am pretty certain it was to make them legal in more areas in the US and around the world  :salute:

I almost got a gen2 cs4 before this xe6 that would have made this less confusing.
It's just that this one came from Germany and I know they have different laws over there.

I have one more pro on the way before I join the owners club.
That will make 3 pros 3 xe6 1kf4 and 1 cs4, all Gen 1 except this xe6

I have heard that shortening the knife blades was to comply with (a later scrapped) proposed TSA rule change that allowed small blades on domestic flights. Is this true?

Now that you mention it, I do remember something about that  By the time they decided to not go through with the TSA change LM had already made the change and the Gen2 was what it was after that

And spyderco had a Roadie ready for that nonexistent market…
I wonder if someone in TSA just liked small blades and tried to get a custom at a reduced price…

it was all political, the thought of someone being able to carry something sharp into the plane no matter how short was too much for some people so that reasonable rule got shot down.

That’s so true. A couple of US senators, I believe it was Warren and Markey, were key to the decision as well. One held up a SAK and claimed it was a weapon. No common sense at all.

In Australia, even a pair of nail clippers will see you hauled out and given a dressing down by the security nazis.

We are not permitted "by law" to carry even a classic on our person (without a valid reason).

Additionally, its illegal to carry tools on your person, but a tool bag is permitted for work.

These draconian rules are particularly galling to an old boy scout who (now in his 60s) has always carried a knife, never used it for any reason other than cutting fruit or fixing things, never been arrested or even spoken to by police and who has never been in trouble with any authorities in any of the many, many countries I have travelled.

Its true, a grubberment who fears its people does so only because its a corrupt and bad grubberment.

Only our criminals carry weapons in Australia, and many of them wear uniforms.

I just read about this:

Quote
Returning travelers quarantining at home will be forced to download an app that combines facial recognition and geolocation. The state will text them at random times, and thereafter they will have 15 minutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be. Should they fail, the local police department will be sent to follow up in person. “We don’t tell them how often or when, on a random basis they have to reply within 15 minutes,” Premier Steven Marshall explained. “I think every South Australian should feel pretty proud that we are the national pilot for the home-based quarantine app.”

Yeah, as politics should keep out of our pockets.  :D
But you are right, that would be common sense, not to mention forum rules…
