PST II Scissors
on: September 24, 2021, 02:11:43 PM
So, I've finally managed to source a PST II, had to go international but hey ho.    Unfortunately the seller wasn't completely honest about the scissors which are not 100% functional, they seem quite sticky and sometimes don't open back up.   I have taken them apart and cleaned and oiled it all up and that has improved matters.  I may decide to take it up with them, however, is this a known issue and are there any fixes anyone knows of?  (mind you they aren't exactly in the first flush of youth anymore!)  I can't see exactly where the spring is to try and add some tension.

Would just add that these are a lovely made tool IMO , every bit as nice as I remember before mine was stolen years ago.   I much prefer them to many of the modern offerings!    Maybe im just getting old.....

Only time I have scissors that stick like that are when they are dirty  So if you have already cleaned them and it is still acting that way then something must be a bit off or a bit bent on them

Hopefully you can get it sorted out and get them in the tool you want :salute:

Update - took a further look and managed to sort the scissors out so they work fairly reliably.  Dont think they open as far as they should but not too bad and work well.   Cleaned up the rest of the tools and think its cleaned up quite nicely.    Date code 0898 so 1998, which I believe is a transitional year and looking at the screwdrivers this appears to be a late 98.  Overall pretty happy.   :)

No apologies necessary I just thought it might get more attention here

Glad you got it sorted :woohoo: And a very nice looking PST II 8)

Would that second datecode be 0998 or something else because 19 doesn't work out since there are only 12 months  :D

Sorry, its only stamped with the one date code 0898 I could find in one handle.   So i assumed that was for the year 1998 (or did I get that wrong?  :D - very possible!)   It isn't stamped/marked as a PST II but does appear to have the newer type of tapered screwdrivers not the older L shaped ones.

Cheers     Yeh it was good to get it sorted and it cleaned up nicely in the end.   Need to do a proper clean on the pliers but ran out of time today.

It should have a code in each handle (sometimes the stamp is a bit faint and you may need to use a light to see it) but yes, you are correct it is 1998 :D

Found it - you are right, it is very faint!  That one is also 0898  :)

Early PST II while they were using PST handles. They later slightly redesigned the scissors as there is a flaw in the original design..

You can mod the old scissor design to perform like the newer ones pretty easily

Ah! That explains the problem with my PST II. I thought it might be a flaw with my particular MT, not the PST II in general. Thanks Steve!

Thanks for the info.  My scissors appear to have a bevel on the scissors but not on the stop.   Dont appear to suffer from this issue thus far, but will investigate further.
