600 lockback
on: January 17, 2022, 12:18:15 AM
Hey all, I recently found and bought a gerber 600 lockback, and don't know much about them, seem like a good blade but a bit of an oddball knife. Anybody know when gerber quit making them? :salute:

From what I can find, it looks like they were introduced in 1989 and made up through the 1990's.  Post a picture buddy, especially if you have the sheath and/or box

Here it is, the blade has some scratches and a little play when closed, didn't come with a box or sheath either unfortunately, but for 28 bucks it was hard to pass up. Has a great edge on it too, this 20+ year old knife has a better edge than my year old fastball :D

So it looks like the 600 was a predissesor to the gator 650, a lot of similarities in the design and the gator isn't much bigger

That is a Magnum LST.

Here is my Magnum Jr. Really solid, and fits my medium-size hands well. When I inherited it, it really got me into lightweight lockbacks. For the money, these are great.

While most were black, the Buckmasters specials were dark green.

They do take and hold a great edge. Steel can't be 420HC as it holds a great edge. It sharpens and works more like 440C.

I think when the MP line came out, the numbers changed, and I believe they were retired finally in 2010 or so. The box that came with mine lists it as a 400, but it's stamped 500.

It really feels like a solid blade Cody. And you weren't kidding about the steel, I barley had to touch it up and it was shaving hairs
