Dremel type needs fuse
on: January 18, 2022, 07:51:55 PM
Hello, I bought a Dremel type tool some months ago on eBay opened but never used condition, it has a UK 3 pin plug but when I opened it today for use it wasn't working...after a lot of head scratching I checked the plug and no fuse in it, so I'm wondering if anyone knows what amp fuse I need for this tool  :dunno:
It is 130w and 220v-240v

Thanks in advance
Caroline

Not from the UK but I know the plugs. Given the wattage the continuous running current is 0.57A. One should allow for possible surges when starting the tool, so my guess is a 2A fuse should be OK.

And your Dremel is the 130w 220v-240v version?

Also thank you all for the super speedy replies, it's great to be here ☺️

Its a 5 Amp fuse, I've got one of those and I just checked.

So here I am back again scratching my head once more...I ordered a new 5amp plug and extra fuse then the 2nd hand multi tool I bought came this morning...same 130w 230v 50hz
But this tool has a 13amp fuse in the plug... Can two tools with the exact same spec use such different fuses and be safe? :dunno:

13 Amp is the go to fuse in the U.K., the fuses kept as spares in a drawer at home. A fuse goes, what’s handy? 13 Amps. I doubt many British consumers know when a 2, 5 or 13 Amp should be fitted. I’m not sure I really do, I tend to replace whatever’s already in the plug, like for like.

Simple to calculate

130(w) / 230 (v) = 0.565 + 10% = 0.622 amps

So a 3 Amp (More common than 5) will do the job nicely.
