It is that time of year again!  Spring is in the air, and that means it is time to slip a Buck 110 in your pocket or on your belt.





For the fifth time in MTo history, Buck fans, traditional knife enthusiasts, and the very foolish will gather this April to celebrate the venerable Buck 110 with a 30-day challenge!  :tu:

Many people think the old Buck 110 is too big, too heavy, and too old-fashioned to carry for 30 continuous days. Anyone who would carry such an antiquated knife must be a glutton for punishment or a fool.

Well…we’ve run this challenge several times, and it can be done. You can do it!*

So, break out your favorite 110….or git you a new one...or restore grandad's old 110....or search the pawns shops and hidden nooks of the web to get a 'new used' 110. Carry that beast for a day…a week…30 days if you dare!  Test it out. Have fun! Find out why this knife has such a loyal following....fools or not.   :D

The Foolish Challenge Rules:

☞  Carry a Buck 110 everyday (for as long as health, strength, and local laws allow) for 30 days, beginning April 1, 2021*.
☞  Post a photo of your Buck 110 every day. Action shots are appreciated. Please label each day’s post with the appropriate label for the day of the challenge, e.g. “Day 12”.
☞  Additional tools maybe carried and/or used. If a tool other than the Buck 110 is used during the course of the challenge, please explain why the Buck 110 was not well suited to for that task. E.g. “the Buck 110 wasn’t OHO, so I had to use a switchblade to open my bag of Doritos™.”
☞  Have fun! If you can’t have fun with a Buck 110….you can’t have fun.
☞  On the final day of the challenge (Day 30), please give a summary of your experience  with the Buck 110. Did it work as expected? Was it too heavy? Too bulky? Did you need ACE wraps and ibuprofen to make it through the challenge? Was your chiropractic bill more than your expected? What was your favorite method of carry?
☞  Like last year, we will celebrate the Buck 110 with a give-away of....a Buck 110, of course. To qualify for the give-away, a participant must complete this year’s challenge.












*Participation in this challenge is strictly voluntary and should not be attempted by the infirm, feeble, careless, accident-prone, aichmophobes, or anyone with a musculoskeletal disorder. Given the obvious rigors of this challenge,  it is advisable for participants to check with a medical provider prior to starting this challenge. MTo cannot be held liable for any injuries incurred while carry or using the 110. Don’t be foolish with your knives.
Merit Badges Start a new thread and post a photo of an Executive or Director for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the pen for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participants shall carry and use one Soldier knife, the model of their choosing, for the duration of the 90 days and post a picture each day. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Delemont SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a challenge thread and post a photo of a SAK Cybertool (any variant), Swisschamp, Champion or Toolchest for sixty (60) consecutive days. Participate in a challenge by carrying  a GEC knife and post a photo of it  for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo daily of any SAK 74mm or smaller ( you can switch it up daily ) for thirty (30) consecutive days. Build your own version of an MRE using off-the-shelf components, post a photo of the completed MRE and store at room temperature for 6 days or more. Consume the MRE after the storage period and post pictures and descriptions of the contents. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Farmer X SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Using EDC items randomly selected with a poker hand, post a photo of your EDC or a component of the EDC that got used during the course of the day for 4 weeks (or 30 consecutive days) Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of your EDC or a component of the EDC that got used during the course of the day for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a Leatherman Skeletool for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate and contribute in Challenge thread and post a photo of either an Axe, MT/Folding knife or Fixed blade (picked at the beginning of challenge) for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a Spyderco knife for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate and contribute in Challenge thread and post a photo of a different blade each day for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a SAK Soldier for thirty (30) consecutive days. Start a new thread and post a photo of the multitool for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Fieldmaster SAK for thirty (30) consecutive days. Participate  in Challenge thread and post a photo of a Buck 112 Ranger for thirty (30) consecutive days. Post a picture and recipe for a batch of Chili that you have made Participate  in a Challenge thread and post a photo of a LM Pocket Survival Tool for thirty (30) consecutive days.

I'll be following this challenge closely, probably with a bit of envy, but I won't be able to participate.

One day I will do this challenge, but not this time as the soldier challenge is still running and I don't have a 110 yet :facepalm:

Does the knife need to be the classic Hunter or can it be one of the other variations I see on Buck's website?

Nix is the official judge of this challenge, but in the past I believe any Buck 110 has qualified.

The smurfbirds who run the city I live in certainly feel that way. That's the main reason I've yet to pick up a 110. However, I do own a Buck 112 Slim Ranger, which I believe is at least slightly related to the 110.

A 110 was on my list when I first got a bulk order of knives to build my collection out at first way back in 2012, so it'd be nice for the old boy to get some more love.

It has a thumbstud on it for practicality, depending on how expensive another one is a variety might be assembled  :dunno:
