I don't know about the Flik.. IMO, a must for a MT are decent drivers.. They're mediocre in a pinch, but they are definitely the worst I've used..  :( The Lowes Kobalt MT is about $10 and it has far better drivers..

Nice video :) Would be interesting to see you try some philips head screws rather than pozi drive ones to see if that makes any difference :)

I think it would tbh. I also think the fact that the Core's driver is physically bigger is a HUGE factor in this, and why I don't get on with the Vic. Obviously, some of the guys here are perfectly happy with the Vic, so there's a good chance it's because of the screws that I use. I would say though that 90%+ of the screws I come across these days are POZI drive, I just don't see that many phillips.

The above was really about me playing with youtube more than a scientific test, for example, a fairer test would have been to use a Diesel if I compare to a Core? Or maybe instead of the Core, go with the flat drivers on the Wave or Charge?

My point being, like most of my ramblings, it probably shouldn't be taken too seriously :D

I feel I should probably add that I like the Flik and I bought one, even after borrowing Def's, so I knew what I was buying. There are some really good things about it, but the drivers seriously let it down which is a shame IMO.

Gerber - if you are listening - sort it  out!
I used to come here a lot.

I just want to say:

If Gerbers have stubby drivers (and that stupid flat phillips), and Vics are slippery, and SOG's are a pain to use, yet the main functional issue with Leatherman is that you need to do a little maintenance to keep them from rusting, then I'm going with the Leatherman, because, considering all negatives of each brand, I'll sacrifice aesthetics for utility.

That's just my opinion, and my train of thought, and why I am a Leatherman. YMMV

Sean, if you're not a member of MEC you'll have to factor in an additional $5.00 for membership.    Just in case you weren't aware.

MEC membership is lifetime so $5 is not bad if you buy outdoor gears relatively often and have one close.

I liked my flik when I had it (give to a friend then got stolen). It's very neat, and believe it or not the can opener is functional. The problem I have is when carried in sheath on belt, it really only fit plier tip down, and if you jump around with it the jaws would slide out by itself. I took it skiing and always have the jaws almost all the way out and sticking out of sheath.

Regard gerber's flat philips, I think the problem is they aren't properly machined. They just took a piece of flat metal and made some grooves on it and called it a day, heck the one on my clutch isn't even symmetrical on both sides. if they actually made it like leatherman's flat bits I'm sure it'll work a lot better.

Here're some pics I took against wave: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,4153.0.html

IMVHO a lot less functional than any other can opener (multitool) I have ever used. Somehow you have to get used to it, really get used to it.

Is it better than the can opener on the Schrade Tough Tool?

nice video, the only problem is that 99.9% of the time the driver on a multi will ot be used to drive a screw into something. If you have screws that need ot be driven into something you also have tools. The drivers are used for the times when you encounter an already set screw that happens to be a little loose, so all you need to do is tighten it down a turn or two. And for those times any of the tools will work.

My favorite phillips is the leatherman long ones which allow me to take apart plastic things that have their screws recessed an inch or two into a hole.

You see, I think I would only take a selection of proper screwdrivers along to do a job, if I didn't trust the multi I had with me.

That's why whenever I go to put up shelves or similar, 100% of the time I take the Core. I have a box of screws with the exact right head size for the Core. In fact, I can't remember the last time I used a "proper" screwdriver.

To me, there's no reason at all why a MT shouldn't be able to handle a task like that.
I used to come here a lot.

ahhrrrgg,  . made in china and for that price, id rather have a bloody nose ,
have to say it but the gerber tools were always badly made. but when they came out all the "new" mltitools in the late 80s and 90s were shoddly made..

but then they never improved, and all the other firms did, and now most of the companies knives are made in china.....
and this multitool is 100% chinese and for 89$ that is dishonest to say the least.........
in china to make this type of tool........ is very very cheap, and when i say cheap i mean in dollars, lets say american dollars.. it would be not more than there is fingers on your hand, , and in the amounts gerber orders them it would be very cheap............

ill but leatherman.. or another that costs less
