SteveP - Day 1

Kicking off the challenge with a pre-hook Explorer. Folks who've been in other challenges with me might recognize this one.

I picked it up at an estate sale last year for $8. When I got it I couldn't open most of the blades because of the dirt and oxidation. Following suggestions from many very helpful forum members, I spent days cleaning it and soaking it in different things. Finally I managed to get everything working again. (See here https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,87409.0.html for the story and a lot of good cleaning tips.)

I was quite proud of myself for bringing it back from the dead.

This one is old enough that it has the key ring eyelet on the blade layer, not the opener layer. And it has the mag glass/inline Phillips layer next to the blades instead of the openers. Forum consensus is that it's a 1986 Explorer.

This was the first Explorer I owned and it got me hooked on the model. I've since picked up several more of them. But this one has a special place of honor because of all the time I spent on it.

Today's uses:
- Scissors for trimming some lose threads on a pair of pants.
- Magnifying glass for looking at a small bug in the house.
- Small blade for cutting up a frozen pizza box. (That's when I discovered that the small blade needed some touch-up.)

I'll be carrying this one for the next week or so.

Day 1

I’m planning on carrying this Huntsman with RGT micarta scales as my primary, if not only, knife for this challenge…
Those are some nice scales!

DAY 1  :woohoo:

Starting off old school with the Huntsman.  Using the saw blade for scale in pics of Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillars.  They've been munching the dill plant, and it's about time to form a chrysalis.

Day 1
The Mtn Yeoman accompanied me on a short getaway.  Its tasks mainly involved cutting open various food items and hand wipes.

The trip included walking around the Legeune Memorial Gardens.

Trimming back some weeds. Which leads to the philosophical question of what is a weed.

Day 1

My wife says that she wholeheartedly approves of this challenge, if it means I’ll use my FX to finally fix a few things around the house.

I swear that there is a tiny gnome in my house, half unscrewing they dresser drawer knobs on a weekly basis.

(Image removed from quote.)
Same here Buzz

Day 2: Tightening a cupboard knob.

DAY 02

My work bag finally gave up the ghost after 10 years of abuse. So I picked up another and the scissors on this Huntsman cut the tags for me.

Great challenge so far. Good uses and nice pics!

I used the Explorer this morning to trim some buds off my rhubarb plants--quick work with a sharp knife--but didn't have a camera with me.   :-\

I'm sure a use or photo will arise later in the day.....  :D

Day 9

Got a lot going on this evening, so updating a little early. After my coworker almost stabbed herself trying to pop a sterno lid with scissors, I stepped in with the bottle opener. Life is just safer with an SAK.

Do you happen to work with McStitchy's sister?  One leg? Glass eye? I think her real name is Lucy, but everyone calls her "Lucky"?

Hopefully she realized how useful SAKs are and will get her own, before an injury happens.

Good use.  I really like the inline phillips.  The can opener can work for many things, but for recessed screws you really need the inline.

This is not the first time I've used it to help her out. She calls it "THE TOOL" because apparently that's what her dad called his. I'm probably leaving there soon, so maybe I'll drop her a Classic on the way out.

Spent my afternoon working in the yard. Lots of soil and seed bags to open.

The FX is really growing on me. A superbly handy knife.

I also ended up using the main blade to slice some muffins and dice up some cheese. Even used the corkscrew to help with a Paracord knot.
If I only had a bottled beer ;-)
