There are already a bunch on eBay for big money. Two sellers have 2 available. I hope LM cancels their order.

Was just coming to comment about the ones on ebay already  ::)

I wished they could track them each down and cancel their orders and to sell them to people that actually want them to keep and or use :salute: but that is the world we live in and it is their right to buy and sell. I believe I would wait until I actually had it first though

"The Darkside was inspired by culture, music and relationships."

Yes - I can definitely see those things in a Leatherman Charge.   :ahhh

Edited to add:  as for reselling, I have no problem with it at all.  What someone does with his new Darkside is not for me to say, just as I don't want anyone telling me what I can do with my MTs.  [I buried a Wave in the back yard for a year - you know, because it was mine   :o].   But I know that is the minority view on MTO, especially among people who did not order one during the window of opportunity.

I fully support people reselling for whatever price they want, but I also fully support Leatherman selling how many and to whom they want  :tu:

I think there is a good chance that it was partially inspired by the Dark Side of the Moon album.

Yeah this one was more evolutionary than revolutionary, and the G10 doesn't seem to add much except eye candy.  But like you I "had" to get one while I could.   :tu:

The additions are interesting, but I agree with your assessment.

I was afraid it would be just another special edition Charge and unfortunately I was right

They are for sure making quick money on these  :salute: that is the name of the game but I would rather they come out with this as a regular limited edition and not call it something from the Garage

Nevertheless, I did order one ::)

I just wished they would have waited and came out with a Garage release every 6 months or so and bring something more unique to the table like the Mr Crunch was  :dunno:

I am lucky that I am not drawn to Charges as strongly as you or else I would be upset with myself. I forgot to check the Leatherman website until a few minutes ago, and of course they are sold out.

I will await the video

I thought about it...but didn't pull the trigger.  It's cool, and if they have regular offerings with glowing GITD I will have to buy one.  What don't I like about it: the pen and the metal scribe.  I can't fully explain why, except that it seemed like trying to add a Vic tool (pen) and they had room for something else, so why not a...metal scribe?

And for the real critics, they sold faster than the 1897s are.

If it was, as suggested earlier, only 900 available and for $250, you're comparing that to 10,000 1897 SAKs for $500 apiece - A fairer selling rate comparison would depend on how fast the first 900 1897s sold....

Yep.  My biggest question.  LM surprisingly mentions nothing about it.

As a comparison, it's unfair.  As an observation, its true.  Neither one really matters, so take a deep breath... ;) :D

The DLC coating as opposed to black oxide is interesting.

Dunno, honestly  I sent less than 10 out of hundreds of Leatherman tools I owned in for warranty claims. I bought from their website a few times in multiples. They said something about me being reselling / forwarding... and blacklisted me since. My brother bought multiple on-sale sheaths for me once, he cannot buy anything from their website again since. In conclusion, buying on-sale items in multiples may land you on their naughty list. Not sure about others, that's my situation, and how I missed the first garage release as well.

As an observation, it's subjective and based on a flawed premise. Any critic hearing that would repudiate it without a moment's thought.

What is up with this plier head? Wish they would comment or put out a video.

I read a post on Toolguyd that the pliers are removable, maybe that’s what it is.

I like the tool, just not the price. It’s great to try out ideas, just my humble opinion but you can get by with a Wave, pen, and scribe that is easier on the wallet.

Awesome innovation, awesome collector piece, but functionally  price is a bit too high for me.

Quite frankly, I'd be surprised if they've sold 90 of them. Leatherman at least priced their latest garage issue a little closer to sanity.

so i see how the pen goes in, they take out the spacer and the hidden lanyard, and the scribe is pretty easy since it goes in the clip location. but how does the tweezers go in? are they carving out a spot in the scale for it?

id assume, in order to add the DLC they need the pliers apart, and if they heated it up again to put the normal pivot back in they'd have to grind off the dlc in order to make it clean. so use a screw pivot instead to solve that issue

here is how the normal pivot is installed 2:40-3:20 summary, pivot pin goes in one side, then heat and pressure flatten the off side. Then it goes in a grinder to take off the flattened pin

No, everybody knows that your focus is on Mini Tools  :P

Seriously, you have enough interest in the Charge that you have collected multiple varieties. The Darkside, as long as it wasn't priced beyond what you could afford, belongs in your collection. You could live with out it, but it does fit in with what you have.

I like the Charge, but I converted the only one I had into 2 knives and I don't know when I will buy another one. So, I don't feel like I am missing out. But if latest Garage release had been related to the E4/ES4 in some way and I missed out on getting one, I would be in a funk right now  :D

This is... extremely disappointing. Unless the pliers turn out to be something significant this is just adding a g10 liner to a g10 charge, and the already developed Nasa Charge 'scale' tools.

This feels like what a Charge should be vs a wave, but there's no innovation here to see.

I actually like the choice of additional tools here, but to be honest, $250 is too much for me.

According to some contributors at https://www.reddit.com/r/multitools/comments/vc7dbx/leatherman_the_darkside/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share the pliers may be adjustable in tension.

Otherwise, I can only bemoan the US-only policy for Garage products. 'Nuff said  >:(
